After a hot shower to clean the mud from her hair and return the feeling to her limbs, Clockwork padded into the living room, in the best mood she'd had in ages.
Toby was sprawled on the couch, staring at the ceiling, completely zoned out. His hair was sticking in different directions, and was still slightly damp.
Clockwork sat on the couch next to him and he regained focus, glancing over at her. He burst into a grin.
"I regret nothing." He said, pulling himself into the sitting position. Clockwork giggled.
"We need to do that again." She said. He grinned.
"Yeah? Well we'll have to wait a few weeks before Slender lets us out of his sight." Toby crossed his legs and leaned sideways against the back of the couch. Clockwork pulled her legs onto the couch too and put her arms around her knees. They looked at each other for a while, remembering.
Clockwork started laughing and Toby joined in, and in a few seconds they were both just laughing softly for no real reason, sitting across from each other on the couch.
"You know what we need?" Toby asked after they finally stopped. He smiled. "We need a handshake. A really complicated one that no one else knows."
"Why do we suddenly need a handshake?" Clockwork rolled her eyes. Toby laughed.
"Because you're my partner in crime now." He shrugged. "And no one else will make a handshake with me."
"I thought the proxies would have their own handshake."
"Masky and Hoody do. They taught me, once, too, but I never remember it."
"I can totally see them with a handshake."
"They're like twin brothers, they do almost everything together." Toby bit his lip. "I'm just the runty little brother that came later and always has to follow them around while they do stuff..." He trailed off, probably realizing how sad that sounded, and snapped back into his regular cheerful attitude. "Anyway, do you want to make a handshake or not?"
"I'd love to." Clockwork smiled and Toby brightened a little more. He scooted closer to her and held out his hand.
"So how is this even going to work?" He asked out loud, laughing a little. Clockwork shook his hand like a regular person and then broke away.
"Like that."
Toby burst out laughing. "That's just a regular handshake, Clock." She grinned evilly.
"Only it's between you and me." She said slyly. "That makes it different."
"We could do a high-five thingy." Toby suggested.
"Yeah, we could high-five, and then I could punch you in the gut!" Clockwork punched him in the stomach and he convulsed forward, laughing.
"Oh gods, Clockwork!"
"Well it didn't hurt."
"What you want me to punch you every time I see you, too?" Toby groaned. Clockwork snickered.
"Sorry."
"Nah, I'm fine." He said hoarsely. "You just knocked the breath out of me holy crap, girl."
Clockwork started rocking back and forth aimlessly and Toby's eyes followed her, a little confused. She grinned and then leaned far enough to the right that she almost fell off the couch. She yelped and caught herself just in time, pulling herself back up and smiling like nothing had ever happened.
Toby laughed and shook his head. "Okay." He said, shrugging. "Glad you feel that way."
Clockwork laughed and he smiled softly, eyes glittering. "So are we making that handshake or are you going to keep doing whatever you're doing right now?"
