How I think of the hogwarts sorting system:
1. Based on values
- Like Peter Pettigrew was in Gryffindor solely because he valued those traits he just didn't exemplify them
*In this story, people might think that Bertha Jorkins or Emmeline Vance should be in slytherin yet one is in Gryffindor and the other Ravenclaw. Jorkins values bravery and chivalry and the other "rys" because she likes to leach off it. Vance only truly gets along with competent people and she herself places a lot of value on intelligence despite her demeanor.
Characters:
- Almost everyone is cannon (like one random line in the million word series cannon)
- Characters not cannon: Main character, main character family, Christopher Tadwell, squirrely first year, pets
- Florence doesn't have a last name canonically
- The main character does have a name but I'm being dramatic and not revealing it
