The odd stalemate that resulted was broken by the ring of a doorbell that I startled at. There was no car engine, no footsteps, how did the doorbell ring? Reaching out with my senses, I heard the heartbeat of a healthy adult man that let me know that someone was indeed there, but something was off, he smelled funny. Breathing deeper, I took note of the odd mix of pheromones, dampened by distance and the barriers between us. He was emitting a mix of territorial pheromones and nesting pheromones on a level incomparable to a human man.
I heard Alfred get up and cross to the door, opening it, the pheromones practically slammed me in the face and I was forced to shut off my scent sense before I went nose blind they were so strong. "Good evening, Master Kent." At least Alfred seemed to know this nonhuman.
"Please Alfred, call me Cal, or Clark at least." The man insisted. "Bruce have company?" Shit, he must have smelled my own pheromones or heard my heartbeat. I wouldn't be able to escape without going unnoticed by either him or the Wayne family that were still semi-suspicious of me.
"Mrs. LeClair is currently dining with the Waynes."
"I'm not familiar with that name."
"Nor should you be, Master Dick met her earlier this evening." The territorial pheromones became a lot stronger, great, he saw me as a threat. I released a brief fear scent before pushing back, hoping he would get the message that I did not really want to be here and let it be.
The strength of his pheromones subsided to a manageable level just as he walked into the dining area, eyes locked suspiciously on me. "I didn't know you were having guests, Mr. Wayne, I must be intruding, my apologies."
"Nonsense, it's Clark who's the unexpected guest. I was about to invite you to stay for a few days, what do you think?"
"That's very kind, Mr. Wayne, but I wouldn't want to intrude more on you than I already have."
"I insist," Dick butted in. "Who else is going to look after my wound, doc?"
I snorted, sure that he had plenty of doctors at his disposal to call that were at least as qualified as me if not more so. "Very well, but only for a few days." I could feel the nonhuman's eyes burning into me, distrustful.
My inner fangs descended enough that I could sense temperatures from them. Each of those present were lit up with heat, though Bruce was warmer than the teenagers and Clark was warmer than Bruce. Clark folded his arms around Bruce and whispered, "mind if I stay over tonight?"
Dick abruptly stood up and I immediately sensed the broken stitch with my still descended inner fangs that itched in my gums. It smelled delectably sweet, like peaches that when bit into, its juice dribbled down my chin, I loved that feeling and shivered at the thought. Taking a bite out of him might be more difficult than I expected. I grabbed Dick's uninjured shoulder and pushed him back into his seat. "What did I say about your stitches?"
"Sorry, Jacky."
"You've already broke three of them. Stop putting weight on your leg."
Dick teased, "what are you gonna do about it? Bite me?"
Snorting, I snapped my teeth together with a sharp clicking sound, "if you ask me to."
"Oh?" That was not the 'oh' I was expecting. That was an interested 'oh', why did he have an interested 'oh'?
"You have to earn it though."
"And how might I do that?" That was even more interested, did he want me to bite him? That . . . that was delightful and new and—and no, must not bite, must resist! I had to give him an answer that he couldn't do.
