I stared at the bill on my counter. Triple checked it was my name on the envelope not my roommate's. Since when was the rent so high? I could've have sworn when we signed the lease it was not nearly this high. I sighed and picked up my phone to call the only person I could talk to when I was this upset. My mom picked up on the second ring .

"Hey baby!" She chirped over the line it sounded like she was driving.
"Hi mom..." I grumbled out.
"Bridget? What happened?" She sounded more attentive now.
She could hear the solemness in my tone.

"The bill for the first payment of rent came in and I thought I made enough this summer babysitting but ..." I trailed off.

"Oh I see... well you know me and your Dad are more than willing to help a little bit."

I knew this. They had basically paid for my whole first year of living in the dorms. My tuition was paid for because of my scholarship. I didn't want them to have to keep paying for me though.

"No no it's ok was just ranting. I can scrape together this month. I told you and Dad I would cover my living expenses from now on."

"Well honey if you won't let me pay at least let me help you find a good job I don't want you ending up somewhere you hate."

I considered this. Helping me research good jobs would actually help a lot.

"Y-yeah actually that would be nice."

"Ok once I get your sister and get back home I'll send you some places just start working on your resume."

"Ok mom thank you."

"Of course honey. I love you. It will be ok."

We hung up the call. I left the bill in the kitchen and went into my room to start sorting my resume. I found a template for it and set it up best I could. The only thing I really had to say on there was my academic achievements because the only other job I really had was babysitting. I was starting to think that I'm going to end up as one of those sign spinners. But when I looked that job up I didn't even have enough experience for that! Ugh.

My phone pinged with the placed my mom found for me. I swiped through them. One was a host at some Italian place, one a lifeguard at the university's pool, one a cashier at a Tj Max, and finnaly the one that caught my eye was a barista position at this local coffee shop called Good Brew. I looked through all of the links and applications though just in case but once I got to the site for the coffee shop I was in love. It was so cute and the drinks and pastries looked amazing plus it was literally 5 minutes from my apartment. Every other place besides the lifeguarding (no thank you) was at least 20 min away.

I love coffee and the idea of being paid to make
coffee for people was very appealing. I clicked the link and applied online. I was worried about my lack of experience but the application literally said it wanted people of less experience because they could be better molded to the Good Brew way. Plus there were photos  of this one guy who seems to be like the main barista and he was really cute. I'm not saying that's the only reason I'm applying. But it's a huge plus.

I clicked submit and closed my computer. I needed a nap now after all of that . I texted my mom telling her the ones I applied to. Which was the host, the cashier, and the barista. She sent a thumbs up back. I grabbed the book I am reading and crawled into my bed and read about high fae and enemies to lovers until I fell asleep. As I started to fall into my sleep I thought about my favorite before sleep scenario but the man who usually looks like a mix of young Leonardo DiCaprio and Andrew Garfield looked a lot more like the man from the coffee website.
