1. The Choice/Awakening

Darkness. Nothing as darkness and cold surrounded me. Not that it was anything new for me... Only now that I was fully conscious, it felt unbearable. Why I was suddenly conscious when I was nothing more than a small meaningless star, I don't know. Even though I was just a small star in the vast universe, I could see the other stars around me. Some bigger, some smaller than me, but none of them had a consciousness like me.... 

How long was I drifting through space? I don't know, I couldn't even go in a certain direction. I just let myself drift and followed the flow. Until at some point a strange circle opened up and pulled me in. 

I felt warmth... for the first time in my life. But as pleasant as it was, being captured was not so nice. I tried to free myself from the grip of whatever was holding me and run away. This seemed to be the best option. ,,Hey, hey, don't be so hasty, little one...'' said a female voice, which made me freeze. ,,There you go.'' I felt myself slowly being let go. I didn't run away, but I took my distance from the woman who was holding me. ,,I see you're a quick learner... That's good.'' I wanted to ask who this person was, but since I was just a star I couldn't. ,,You're probably wondering who I am, aren't you?" the woman in front of me asked, amused, and I winced. It was a bit creepy. Nevertheless, I flew up and down as confirmation. ,,I am someone like you. I was once nothing more than a star. But I was given the chance to become someone else. Your loneliness, which I could feel, reminds me of myself. That's why I'd like to make you a suggestion: What do you think about becoming a human and possibly having a great adventure?''

I pondered. This seemed far too good to be true. The woman in front of me seemed to notice this too. ,,Don't get me wrong, I can turn you into a 'human', but you'd only have to do me one small favor. It's really nothing bad. I just want you to look after someone. She's very important to me and I want her save...'' she explained. ,,At least this time....'' she mumbled. And why didn't she do it herself? Unlike me, she's already human. Suddenly there was a dark smile on her face. ,,I can't do it myself, because I don't just leave my friends and family like that. My boyfriend wouldn't let me go either.'' She seemed to calm down again and continued speaking. ,,Besides, as I said, I have my friends. You don't have any, so you would have the chance to make friends too. And who knows, maybe the person you're supposed to look after will make friends with you too. Or at least become a good companion.'' What she said seemed to make sense. Still, there was something strange about her. I didn't know what a human being was really like. But there was a strange power emanating from her. What was she really, apart from a star?

,,Oh, in case you're wondering what I am. I'm just a simple Herrscher, nothing fancy. So will you accept my offer?''

After much deliberation, I flew up and down again. 'Yes, I accept the offer.' 

,,Well then, let's make sure we can talk like normal people,'' she smiled and snapped. A strange tingling sensation ran through me...

When I opened my eyes and looked down at myself, I saw my reflection in the water. Long white hair, two different colored eyes with a star in one of them. I was also wearing a white dress. 

,,And do you like it?" the girl asked. ,,Yes, thank you!'' ,,No problem,'' she smiled and held a crystal in the shape of a flower in her hand. Only now did I realize that we both looked almost identical... Well, except for the eyes. And she was wearing a much more elegant outfit.

,,Um... Why are we looking Identical?" I asked, confused. ,,Why not? We both look cute and adorable~'' she laughed. ,,All joking aside. I have no idea. All I did was give you a human form. I didn't expect you to look like me. Well... maybe that's because of our original self...'' she added mumbling. Our orginal self? ,,So am I named like you now?'' I asked skeptically. ,,Well... My name is Yuki Kasane, but maybe we should think of something else for you... How about Yuki Yonaka? Yonaka means midnight, which is kind of fitting for a star.'' ,,...Sounds good. I like it. But what would you like me to do for you now?'' 

She started to explain to me roughly what my job was and that I didn't have to do much. I was just supposed to keep an eye on one particular person. I would be given a small device that would serve as a mission log with the ability to supposedly see into the future. ,,...That's why you don't have to worry. Make your decisions as you see fit. As long as you don't change too much, since certain things have to happen, you're safe.'' ,,Okay... but how do I get to where I'm supposed to go? And how should I defend myself if necessary?'' I asked uncertainly. ,,Give me your hand.'' I hesitantly did so. ,,What are you doing?'' ,,I'm sharing some of my experiences with you. But I must warn you, some of my experiences could affect your emotions and memories.'' ,,Mhm.'' ,,And to your first question. You have a choice: either I pack you in a block of ice or in a crystal. People will find you then.'' ,,Well, if I have no other choice, I'll take the crystal,'' I replied. 

,,Okay. Anything else...'' I asked, getting a little tired. What was going on now? Why was I suddenly so tired? ,,That's all for now. But one more thing before we part ways and you forget  what happend here for now...'' Her voice became more and more muffled and my eyes closed and I fell.
