hongjoong thought about sans words all night.

he thought about them when he woke up too.

and he was thinking about them now, as he walked with yeosang and jongho to their favorite cafe.

normally, the four friends would go together after school or on saturday- but they didn't have time this week, and instead rescheduled to sunday morning. wooyoung, of course, did not get up early enough to come along, and claimed it was his "last day to sleep in late" before having to succumb to the early hours of school again.

hongjoong was deep in thought, walking ahead of the couple as they went down the sidewalk,
seonghwa doesn't like me; san must've been high or something.

seonghwa couldn't like him. because if he did it would change so much- it would fuck with hongjoongs head till the day he died, it would mean that all the things that had happened between them in the past was real, and not hongjoongs wishful thinking, and that scared him.

hongjoong had done a good job at burying his old feelings for the boy, he'd worked hard to get over it after seonghwa left- and he intended on it staying that way. what san said must've been absolute bullshit, another way for him to psych hongjoong out, prank him like they used to; found out they were hooking up and wanted to spark a little drama or something maybe.

but that wouldn't work this time, because hongjoong did not like seonghwa like that anymore.

he's annoying, he's rude, he's cocky- he's an arrogant bastard who's slowly plaguing hongjoongs mind as the days go on-
seonghwa can't like me.

"hongjoong? you okay?" jongho asked, and it was only now that hongjoong realized the two were on either side of him, eyes flashing with concern.

"huh? i'm okay, sorry."

yeosang shook their head, "you don't have to apologize, you're just quieter than normal that's all."

"i'm just in my head a bit." hongjoong sighed, running his fingers past his bangs to fluff them out.

"wanna talk about it?" jongho asked carefully, the two were also so calm and inviting like a warm buzzing light, they always made hongjoong feel safe.

the shortest paused for a moment, brain racking over all the possible outcomes, and then, he smiled softly,
"i'll pass, thanks."
