(Leilani's POV)

I woke up this morning and turned over to my alarm clock. It was a little after 9 and I let out a little sigh. It was a Saturday so I wasn't late for school, but 9is considered "early" to me on the weekends. I stare up at my ceiling for a minute before sitting up in my bed and finally getting up. I walk over to my door and I slowly open it, knowing that Jaylen is most likely still sleeping. As I walk down the stairs, I hear someone humming softly and I assume that it's my mom.

I walk into the kitchen and instead of seeing the familiar figure of my mother, I instead see a tall, brown skin woman at the sink washing some dishes. I jump a bit at first believing that it was an intruder, but my memory comes in to remind me of my new "roommate". "Kayla, what are you doing?" I whisper yell at her and walk closer. She turns around and looks me up and down before giving me a smile, "Oh, hey Lani. I just wanted to make you guys breakfast for welcoming me into your home."

I can feel myself slightly letting my guard down before quickly putting it back up. "Oh yeah? You're not gonna sneak anything in here, right?" I ask, leaning over the stove slightly to see what she's making.  She giggles a bit and shakes her head, "No, I would never do that. I just wanna thank you guys." I look her up and down again and move closer to her, "Well, would it be okay if, I helped you?" I ask hesitantly. She giggles again, probably sensing my nervousness and nods her head, "Sure, some help would be nice."

I nod and give her a small smile. I walk over to the stove and look over the food again, "Okay, what can I do?" I ask and look back over at her. She looks over at me and finally finishes washing the dishes, she steps closer to me and says, "The water's boiling so you can put these eggs in and let them cook for about 6 minutes." She hands me the eggs before walking to the fridge and pulling out some bacon.

I nod before grabbing some eggs and placing them in the boiling water. I then pull out my phone and set a timer for 6 minutes. "These must be for my dad, huh?" I ask and look over at her as she cuts open the packaging for the bacon. "Of course, I know how much he loves hard boiled eggs." She says as she gets the package open and brings them over to the stove. "Wow, I'm surprised you remember that after all these years." I say and giggle a bit.

She smiles as I giggle and places some bacon in a pan slowly. I go and grab another pan and place it on the stove, "So I'm guessing everyone else gets regular scrambled eggs?" I ask and look over at her as she flips the bacon over. She nods and places some more in the pan while taking others out.  I turn on the burner and leave the pan there for a minute before cracking some eggs in and scrambling them.  After they are scrambled, I put in some salt and pepper.

She looks over at me and smiles a bit, "You must really know what you're doing." I look at her and shrug my shoulders, "I've learned a lot from my mom, plus it's nothing special. It's just scrambled eggs." She looks back at the eggs and smiles, "Well they look absolutely delicious." I smile a bit and roll my eyes before putting the eggs back. I turn back over to the stove and look up at her, "Okay what's next?"

She looks down at me before taking the last piece of bacon out of the pan and placing it on a plate. She sets the plate down and looks back at me, "The last thing we need is toast, which should be easy since you have a toaster right there." She points over to the toaster and I nod before grabbing some bread. We place some slices in and wait patiently, not saying a word and just watching the toaster.
(Five minutes later)

After about five minutes, we're finally on our last two slices of bread.  We put the slices in and wait patiently for the toaster to ding and we can finally plate everything up. I look over at her and raise my hand up for a high five, "We did pretty good." She gives me a high five and keeps her hand against mine for a few seconds before pulling it away. "You know, that's the Leilani I used to know." My eyebrows knit in confusion and I look up at her after the words leave her mouth.

She looks back at me, obviously not expecting my confused expression. "What do you mean you used to know?" I ask as I cross my arms above my chest. "Well you've obviously, changed." Her hand moves up and down as she says this. I don't know if she's talking about my body or my personality, but either way I'm offended. "Nothing has changed, I'm still the same girl you knew before." I said, my voice raising slightly. Kayla quickly realizes her mistake and stutters a bit, "W-Wait no, not like that. I didn't mean it in a bad way."

I move closer to her and cut her off, "Then what do you mean?" My voice is still slightly raised and Kayla looks down into my eyes. "I mean that you've-" *Ding* The sound of the toaster cuts her off and I places the slices with the others. I look back at Kayla waiting for her to finish, but my mom then enters the room. "Good morning you too. Aww, you've both made breakfast." My mom says as she gestures over to the plates of bacon, eggs, and toast before turning over to me. "I guess you guys are getting together wonderfully." I give my mom a fake smile before looking back up at Kayla, "Yeah, we're just peachy. I'm gonna go wake up Jaylen."

I walk out of the kitchen and head for the stairs then to Jaylen's room. I knock on his door softly before opening it and poking my head inside.  He slightly opens his eyes and looks at me, "What do you want?" He asks in a tired voice. "Breakfast is ready." I simply say before shutting the door and walking back downstairs. I already saw my dad sitting in his seat with a newspaper and drinking a cup of coffee. I give him a hug before watching my mom walk out of the kitchen with Kayla following behind her. I give my mom a hug before sitting in my usual seat. Jaylen soon comes downstairs and sits in his seat as my mom brings out the plates of breakfast.

We all begin eating and I will constantly glance up at Kayla, still angry that I didn't get my answer. 'What does she mean by i've changed. Nothing was even wrong with me' I thought to myself as I continue eating.  I would occasionally talk to my mom and dad but I didn't utter a word to Kayla, and she reciprocated. She only spoke to my mom and Jaylen but she usually kept her head down and ate her food.  Once we were all done, I collected our plates and took them into the kitchen. I began washing the dishes in peace before I heard a familiar voice behind me say, "Hey Lani, can we talk?"
