I wait by the entrance of the woods of the forest for Grover.
I hear the clicking of heels and lift my head. "I was starting to think you stood me up there, G." I say jokingly. His eyes wide, "No, never. I just needed to brief, Mr. D on what happened." I explain. "Lighten up, I'm joking." "Right, sorry. I just don't want you think I was a jerk." He states. "I could never think your jerk. You're Grover." I say smiling at him. I take his hand into mine and start walking through the woods.
"We should get started." He suggests. "Let's go." I take his hand and start walking into the forest. So I don't notice the way his face started to heat up when our hands touched.
"Isn't this better than eating mediocre school food and getting hit with cheese?" He cracks a smile when I mention how Nancy threw cheese at him. "It wasnt funny." He says trying to hide his smile as he picks the berries. "Wasn't it though?" I shrug. I pick a berry off of a bush and bite into it. "You really like these?" I ask him. "It's kind of like you and chocolate." "Bittersweet?" I ask. "Yeah." He turns his head to me, admiring me as I Tate the fruit. He quickly snaps out of it before I notice by shaking his head.
"You know why they call them Míkro?" He asks me picking up my backpack for me. I shake my head. He hold his hand out to me and helps me up. "Educate me on your knowledge of fruit, Grover Underwood." I say in a wise voice. He chuckles making his nose scrunch up, cutie. "Despite the fruits above average size it's called Míkro because of its small aftertaste." I raise an eyebrow as I bite into it again.
Then once I swallow I finally taste it. I grimace as the fruit becomes strong. "Oh my god-" I cough a little. "Jesus, Saytrs are a different breed." "I guess we're just used to it. I'm surprised you ate it so long." He says holding a water bottle to my lips as I double over. I take it and almost drown myself with it. "Small aftertaste my ass." He lets out a laugh and my face starts to turn red from the coughing. "I've never tasted it when I've baked them into sweets for you before." I point out. "That's because the aftertaste is only noticeable when the fruit is by itself. Add something else to it and it cancels out that taste." He explains. I hum understanding, "You think we got enough?" I say looking into my bag. "Yeah, how many do you need for the cupcakes?" He asks. "This should be good." I state.
I let out a gasp as flour hits my face. "Ohhhh. I'm sorry." He says trying not to laugh. I open my eyes glaring at him slightly. "Oh it's on." "Wait!" He says as I grab an egg and smash it on his head. The yoke slides down his face as he groans in disgust. "You asked for it." He says he grabs more flour. I let out a scream as he throws it at me and I dodge it. We get into a small food fight, it only ended when my dad came in.
"What the hell is this?!?!" We both freeze and look at him and then each other. "I swear on my father's throne if this ain't cleaned up in the next hour you're on toilet duty and I'm taking the bike!" He threatens. "Yes sir." Grover says nodding immediately. "Sorry dad." "Kids." He mutters before he leaves the room. I glance back at Grover and we both start snickering.
We cleaned up and by the time I finished washing his hair the cupcakes were done. "Wanna do the honors?" I ask him. He takes an oven mitt and opens the oven. He picks up the tray and sets it on my counter. I lean against the counter and pick up a cupcake, the cupcake with a paper towel. I raise it to his mouth. He opens and bites into it. He chews for a bit and I see his ears twitch slightly. He hums at the taste. "It's good?" I ask him. "Very, it's like we baked happiness into the cupcakes." He says with a smile. I take a bite of the same cupcake and lick my lips of crumbs. "Gods! This is probably the best batch I've ever made. Did you add something other than what I asked?" I ask curiously. I place the cupcake on the counter. "No. I followed you." "Wonder what's so different about this bath from the times I've made them by myself?" I ask more to myself than Grover. We both reach for the same cupcake causing our hands to touch.
