"She saved your life!" I hear a muffled voice yell, I slowly open my eyes and notice I am not in the crew quarters but the captain's quarters. My vision clears and I try to sit up only to fall back down onto the bed with a grunt escaping my mouth. I look down and that is when all the memories come flooding back.

"That doesn't mean she deserves a promotion!" I hear a familiar feminine voice. That must be Uma, I conclude.

"She works harder than anyone else on the crew!" I hear Harry yell back. My face scrunches up in confusion. I don't think I ever did anything that stood out against the other crew members. I look back at the last month and I realize I was always the one who was sore, or dripping in sweat by the end of the day but I just assumed it was because I wasn't used to doing the work like everyone else was. My head starts throbbing and my side feels like its on fire.

"Ugh" I involuntary let out a sound of pain. The arguing pauses and the door creaks open. I turn my head to see Harry and Uma walk into the room with faces full of worry and anger.

"Good evening, love" Harry says. When I first met Harry him calling me love caught me off guard but once I realized he called everyone that my mind relaxed.

"Evening? How long was I out for?" I ask, my voice is groggy and scratchy.

"Almost 24 hours" Uma says quietly. My eyes widen slightly. I lift up my shirt and look at my stab wound that has been sloppily sewn shut and a bandage wrapped around my torso.

"I heard you both arguing outside the room. What was that about?" I ask hesitantly. It wasn't any of my business but my curiosity got the best of me.

"We were discussing wanting to promote your status" Uma says plainly.

"Why?" I ask bluntly. I don't see any reason to promote me. sure I saved Uma's life but I feel that should just get me a free meal at the restaurant. Harry walks over to the side of the bed and kneels to my level. He gently takes his hand into mine. I look at him with my eyes full of confusion.

"You did something no one else on the crew was willing to do. You work the hardest out of anyone. Your skill higher than most. You deserve a higher status than a mere crew member" Harry says gently and sincerely. I feel him squeeze my hand gently.

"I had no idea you were watching so closely" I say to Harry. I look to Uma and I notice she is deep in thought.

"Uma?" I say softly. She shakes her head out of her thoughts and looks at me with eyes full of curiosity.

"Why'd you save me?" she asks "I haven't given you any reason to be nice to me, if anything I've given you reasons to be mean to me" she states bluntly

"What do you mean?" I hadn't noticed her being mean to me. I guess I was so focused on pulling my own weight that I wasn't paying attention to those around me.

"You didn't notice how I gave you less food then the rest? How I gave you difficult tasks when I knew you didn't have any experience in said task" she continues listing all the different things she's done to me.

"I didn't notice if I'm being honest. I saved your life because you saved mine when you let me join your crew. Besides if something happened to you when I could have done something about it I would have never been able to forgive myself."

"See I told you she was different" Harry says turning to Uma but keeping his hold on my hand. I look in between Uma and Harry who seem to be holding a conversation telepathically. Uma sighs before looking me in the eyes.

"Congratulations you're now the bonus mate" she says before walking out of the room. Harry then explain that the bonus mate is the one that steers the ship. I don't know how useful that is since we're stuck in one spot on the Isle but I'll take it I guess.

"Cool?" I say
