(Notes before the chapter: This is an AU where there a minority of people with powers. Quick overview what powers the crew has (not all are shown here but still interesting!):
Evan/Vanoss: Owl shifter
Jon/Delirious: Has a dimensional pocket where he can infinitely store stuff
Tyler/Wildcat: Big cat shifter
Brock/Moo: Teleports
Brian/Terroriser: Cyborg
David/Nogla: Uses shields (forcefield e.g.))The air in the facility is stale as the door swings open, having been hacked by Brian. Their current mission is taking down an illegal research lab. The client hadn't known what the lab was researching but he had been clear that he doesn't care if no one survives as long as he gets the files.
Walking through the facility, it becomes clear that someone took care of that already.
They move from corridor to corridor, looking into each room. The former no doubt pristine white of the walls is stained with red in multiple places and horribly mutilated corpses can be found in almost every room. Be it security personnel or what seems to be the researchers of this place. Some have their limbs ripped off or were shot in the head by some sort of laser. One room is completely covered in blood with headless corpses strewn about, like the heads just exploded.
It's by far the most chaotic, vicious bloodbath they have ever seen and they have seen many in their time as mercenaries.
It's eerily quiet and they do their best to move quiet as well in case the threat that did this is still here. Walking through another closed door into the 'Living Sector', a banging sound gets their attention.
Following the sound, weapons drawn and ready, they walk into a cafeteria and from the eating area towards the kitchen. A quick look through the opening in the wall that the food would get passed through shows a child, a boy by the looks of it, slamming a knife into the top of a food can with desperation. His white clothes and his skin are covered in blood and the too big clothes reveal a skeletal body, clearly on the verge of starvation, as they hang off him. It's hard to tell with all the blood clinging to him but his fingers are already full of open cuts as he tries to open the can, too weak to do more than dent it.
Against his better judgment and training, Brock sucks in a breath. It's not loud but in the silent room he might as well have shouted as the boy's head snaps up to them. Eyes widening in fear, he scrambles back, abandoning both can and knife in his haste to get away from them. Unfortunately for him, they are currently blocking the only exit so he has no choice but to curl up in a corner, shivering in fear, eyes trained on them.
"Delirious.", Evan says, order clear even without needing to communicate it, and Jon moves into the kitchen as the others back up, back into the eating area and find a table to set up on.
"Be careful. For all that we know, he could have killed everyone here.", Evan says into the earpiece and turns his attention to the rest of his crew. They all look back at him with unimpressed eyes. "Human experimentation?", Brock asks, half question/half statement and Evan shrugs, eyes dangerous with anger, "Seems like it. I doubt the people here brought their children to work."
Brian angrily clicks his tongue, "Shame they are all already dead." David nods beside him and Tyler growls under his breath.
"Where's the map?", Evan asks and Brian unfolds it on the table. Searching for a bit, Evan points to the information headquarters, "Terroriser, I want you to get there and dig through their files. Report any information you deem important immediately. Take Nogla with you." Both nod and leave quickly. The rest turn their attention to Jon, listening in through the earpiece.
Jon has found a can opener in the meanwhile and is currently crouching in front of the child, at an appropriate distance as to not stress him to the point of lashing out.
