First Expedition: Petra and Oluo

First Encounter & The Incident

The tension in the morning air was heavy. Oluo was having a hard time sleeping. He was tossing and turning with Gunther's words echoing in his head.

"They see their first real titan"

During the times he didn't sleep, he would quietly check on Petra, feeling and instant calm when he saw her sleeping peacefully.

He was glad the days events weren't keeping her up, or she was just so exhausted to be kept awake by her fear.

As he laid there looking through the canopy of trees, he was wondering if he really had what it took to be a scout. Had he made a mistake not going to the Military Police.

Oluo never wanted to admit it but one of a reason that he had joined the corps was because of Petra. His mind wandering back to nine months prior.

Petra sat down next to him at dinner with a cheerful greeting. It always amazed Oluo that despite a full day of training, Petra still had energy at the end of the day.

Her long light red hair feel in front of her face. She pushed it back. "You know I'm thinking of curing my hair, before we graduate. I see most of the scouts have short hair, I guess it's easier to see and to use the ODM gear."

Oluo almost choked on his food.

"The scouts?"

Petra nodded.

"You're thinking about joining them, but your going to finish in the top 10."

Petra shrugged. "I mean that was always my plan, if I ranked in the top ten or close to it. If I had ranked much lower I would join the Garrison"

Oluo swallowed hard. He had been leaning heavily towards the Survey Corps himself, desperate to see the world beyond the walls. But now as he was about to make his choice, the comfort of the MPs was temping. He had been planning to propose to Petra that they join the MPs together. He honestly couldn't imagine not being by her side, even if it meant giving up on his dream of seeing the world beyond the walls.

"Why the Survey Corps?"

"Well it just makes sense that the best soldiers join the toughest branch. It seems like the Survey Corps need the best of the best ya know. Never thought I would be in that position." She laughed.

Oluo nodded in agreement. "Makes sense."

"And besides, that's were your going right?"

"I-um-yeah that's the plan."

"So it's an added bonus that we will be together" she said quietly, her cheeks flushing a bit.

"Well here we are Petra, in the woods, beyond the walls, together" he whispered turning his head towards where she was sleeping.

The tension in the air was heavy. A small team was mounting up to escort the wounded and the remains of the dead back to Wall Rose.

Petra watched as they went before the sun rose. Before the titans would be come active again.

She looked to see Captain Hange and Captain Levi talking closely, they both looked as if they had not gotten any sleep.

"Alright Squad Hange and Squad Levi, mount up and let's move out" Hange called out. "We continue with our reconnaissance mission."

As she was about the get on her horse, Captain Levi came by giving her a stern look.

"Remember what I told you last night Ms. Ral"

"Yes Captain"

She looked over at Oluo, who gave her a sympathetic look.
