Saphrus?
Who's Saphrus?
Julius didn't seem to react. It was a name he'd gone by for years - he didn't want to remember what the gods did to him.
Saphrus and Sharon had a little pizza date that night. Sharon served the pizza, apologizing that she didn't have anything better.
Saphrus didn't seem to mind but hesitated before taking a bite of his food. Sharon noticed, looking up at him.
"Is everything okay? You aren't allergic, are you?"
"No, no. Nothing like that. Just.. growing up, I was always taught that the head of the house gets the first bite. Paying respects."
He lied, but Sharon didn't catch it. She smiled, flattered.
"Awe, that's so sweet. Thank you."
Time had passed, both Sharon and Saphrus just enjoying the time together. Sharon admits wanting to have spent more time together, but exams at the college came up and he wasn't able to. Saphrus didn't seem to mind at all.
"You could've called me! I would have come over sooner. I love our dates."
"I know! I just.. didn't want to bug you. Exams were a mess, but they're over now. So I've got time again!"
Saphrus smiled.
"Oh!! I have something to show you!"
Sharon stood up, going to the other room. She came back, holding a book.
"Someone who works at the college found this, so we made copies and all my students got one. I thought you'd find something interesting! It's got the old Emperor Cyrillus, and some... tree dude thing holding hands with him."
Sharon sat down, opening the book to show the page.
"Emperor Cyrillus..."
Saphrus touched the page gently. He sounded sad but did his best to hide it from her.
Sharon turned the page.
"And then!! This really intrigued me. They talk about this person like they were a god.."
The page showed Saphrus, but how he looked back in Greece. A form he hasn't held since the incident. Saphrus tried not to show panic."Well, some gods can hold a human form. It's not unheard of, especially the older gods."
"That's the thing! They show that very person, but different. Look!"
She flipped the page, showing a familiar form.It was Saphrus in his true form. His true, deity form.
One he hasn't shown Sharon yet.
"I can't help but feel a sense of longing for this god. I don't know why, I've never felt that way with any of the others I've researched and taught of. Just this one."
She traced the page gently. Saphrus shivered, feeling what she was doing.
"It's like my soul is crying out to it. To hold that god."
"Well! Why didn't you say so?"
"Huh?"Sharon looked at Saphrus, confused. He gently moved the book away, pulling her arms around him.
"Well? What is your soul saying to you now?"
"There's no way.."
