Everyone was sat around a short but spacious table in Juno's living room. The food had not arrived yet, but everyone was snacking on crackers and cheese, with red wine to wash it down. Chatter was light but consistent, clearly the night was just beginning.
"So, how about we start lightly, with a game of truth or drink. The questions won't be too bad I promise, it's just to get to know you newbies better." Stated Danielle, eager to begin. A series of agreements flowed through the room and so the game began.
"Ok I'll go first, it's my house after all." Juno wanted to ask Jill a million and one questions, but to start with her would have been too obvious, so she began somewhere else. "Manuela, Manu, can I call you that? Great! So Manu, truth or truth?"
The goalkeeper chuckled, "Truth."
"You sure? I thought you would've said truth." Juno followed up, after all she was the host, she had to keep her guests entertained. Bored already, Viv spoke up, "Come on Jo, ask the question."
"Okay, so Manu, I'm sure you remember that night at Bayern when we all went out bar hopping. It was fun, but I didn't see you much after the second bar. Why did you leave? or should I ask who did you leave with?" A chorus of 'oooo's' were scattered around but the dark haired girl did not waste one second;
"Oh, I left with Andrea, an Italian girl, never really heard from her again." She answered simply.
The group was left speechless, Manu had seemed so sweet and naive and having a random one night stand didn't seem like it would be her cuppa tea. "Talk about unexpected..." spoke a shocked Leah.
"Alright, now it's my turn!" Exclaimed Manuela, "Leah, what was your first kiss like? Full story only!" Leah turned crimson red as she reached for her shot glass and emptied it quickly. "I will never, ever, tell that story."
"It's true, I don't even know." Juno said, knowing she and her best friend told each other everything, or almost everything at least.
"Yeah... me neither, now that I think of it..." Jordan's eyes thinned as she looked at Leah with a joking skeptical face.
The night, and the game continued, everyone was drunker and in the Arsenal team's minds, the world seemed brighter. Everyone was getting along and getting to know the newest members as the game continued.
"I have a question for Jill!" Exclaimed Danielle excitedly, all eyes fell onto both of them. All of Jill's questions had been pretty light, and the Londoners wanted the inside information. Who better to ask the question than Danielle van de Donk?
"Jill, did you find romance in Bayern, or at least did you like someone? A crush, even a small one?" As soon as Jill heard the question, her eyes found their hazel magnet, and this time, Juno was staring right back at her. No one spoke, and neither of them really understood what their eye contact meant; even if they could've, they didn't have time to, as the doorbell shrieked throughout the apartment, shaking the girls out of their daydream.
"I'll get it." Juno tore her eyes off of Jill, she needed an escape. As she stood up, the Dutch girl could not help but keep staring at her, not noticing the group of girls around her intently watching her, waiting for an answer to the question posed.
"Jilldo!! Hello! Earth to Jill?!"
Jill's daydream bubble popped. She looked towards the couch in front of her, over the table. Who she wanted to see was not there, physically and mentally. She could not expect anything from the younger girl, of course not, it's not like she had shown any romantic intentions herself. Did she even want to? What would that even mean for Jill? She didn't li- No. What a mess.
Clearing her throat, she answered, "Sorry, yeah, no. I was pretty focused on football and myself, I had no time to think about romance or crushes." Desperately, deep down inside, Jill wished to all the gods above, if any, that Juno had not heard. She prayed that Juno had not ruled Jill out as a possibility, even if Jill wasn't sure as to why she cared.
Juno had in fact not heard. When she opened the door, a very pretty woman had been there to deliver the sushi. She had brown hair down to her collarbone and pale skin that was detailed with freckled patterns. She had a nose ring and she carried herself with confidence, even if she was simply delivering a sushi order.
"Hello, Juno Seton?" she asked.
"Yes, that's me, how are you?" Juno hadn't really asked to know, she was just used to asking that question as a usual greeting. But Delivery Girl was not used to Juno's constant flirting.
"I'm... good, thank you. Are you guys having a girls night?" Delivery girl was not easily flustered, clearly, and didn't seem to be in a rush. Juno however, with the mention of her team, noticed that she was taking her sweet time, and that she hadn't heard Jill's answer.
"Oh yeah, they're my team, we play football together." she said hurriedly, "Anyways thanks for the sushi, and it was lovely to meet you. I'll see ya!" Again, she had not meant that, it slipped out out of habit, but Delivery Girl jumped at the opportunity;
As Juno's door to her flat closed the girl said, "My phone number's in the box with the napkins, text me."
The young footballer was quite shocked. Did she have that much of an effect on women? Or did women have such an effect on her? She turned around, unsure of what to do with this woman's number which she had not requested. With the two sushi boats, balanced on each hand, she almost ruined dinner by bumping onto Jill, who was going into the kitchen for some water.
"Shit! You scared the fuck outta me, Jill!"
"Sorry, didn't mean to. Here, let me help." Jill picked up one of the boats, carrying it to the kitchen. While she went to grab a glass she spoke, "What took so long? She asked for your number?" Jill was joking, but she had actually got it just right.
"Yeah, kind of... she gave me her number." Juno said slowly, still rather confused about the situation, and weirdly concerned about what Jill might've thought about her rendezvous.
"Oh... she did?" Jill said, almost frozen in place.
"Well don't sound so surprised, I wouldn't say I'm ugly, no?" Juno didn't know what she expected from Jill, but it wasn't that. She was slightly offended by her teammate's reaction, did she really think that it was weird that that girl had found her attractive?
Quickly turning around, Jill had her eyes wide open, "No! No, that's not what I meant, of course you're not ugly. God, look at yourself you're-" She stopped herself, gaining her composure back. "I wasn't surprised that she found you attractive, just that she had the guts to ask you out just like that."
"Oh, so you find me attractive Jilly?" Juno jokingly batted her eyelashes provocatively, looking at Jill, making fun of her.
"Oh shut up, will you? As if." answered Jill, reaching for her cold glass of water.
Juno just laughed and left the kitchen with one of the sushi boats, completely unaffected. On the other hand, Jill was stood against the cabinets as she tried to gain her breath back. She couldn't understand how Juno could flirt with her so easily, how simple it was for the English girl to fluster her and leave her speechless. Clearly, Juno did not feel the same as the Dutch, if she liked her how could she be so openly flirty?
