"Let me get a picture of my babies before you leave!" My mom's excitement was as clear as the day, with the birds flying around the beautiful, blue sky. She eagerly raised her phone to click a picture of me and Liam, my brother before we were off to college. Her eyes were fixed on the screen as she adjusted the angle, ready to capture the moment.
"Mom, it's not my first time." Liam quipped and we all burst into laughter.
While standing here, I felt the warm breeze caress my skin as I took in, once again, the familiar surroundings that have been my home for the past countless years.
"I've loaded all the bags in the trunk, your highness." Liam sarcastically remarked. I rolled my eyes at him, half irritated, half playful, and settled next to him as he took over the wheel.
As we drove down the familiar streets of our hometown, memories of my childhood flooded my mind. Each corner seems to hold a piece of my memorable past.
The park where I used to play hide and seek with my first crush, Chace, the one who left town and took a piece of my heart with him. We passed Mr. Goldfish's ice cream parlour, and the old movie theatre where I must have watched The Notebook more times than I can count, each time hoping for a love story as epic as theirs. The car filled with lively tunes as we cranked up the radio, and set off on this long journey.
After a long, four-hour drive, we finally reached our destination, his apartment. Correction, our apartment.
The idea of us sharing the apartment was just too hilarious. We had never even shared our bedrooms growing up, always ending up in ridiculous fights over who got the better side of the bed. Now, here we were, about to live together. At least this time we had separate rooms, though mine was a bit smaller than his. Naturally, he never missed a chance to boast about it, claiming it was his 'right' as the elder sibling.
Whatever, I rolled my eyes. Blah, blah, blah.
