When we were young and our daddies told us boys had cooties, I wonder if they knew what was coming in our lives to make up such silly stories.

Maybe our daddies told us boys had cooties so they wouldn’t have to deal with the pain. Did they know that we would cry over such boys? Or did they know that one day they would lose us to one of those boys that they knew weren’t good enough for us?

Maybe our daddies told us boys had cooties because they knew what was in store for our hearts. Did they know that boys would break our hearts, and in the end steal them away? Or did they know that boys could do much more to our hearts rather just breaking or holding them together?

Maybe our daddies told us boys had cooties to prepare us for rejection and betrayal. Did they know that one day best friends would no longer be because boys took up too much space? Or maybe they knew that we would be hung out to dry by a friend too wrapped up in a relationship?

When we were young and our daddies told us boys had cooties, I wonder if they knew what was coming in our lives to make up such silly stories.
