A student walked down the aisle of a nursery and carelessly picked up a flowerpot. Not knowing what he had chosen, only for the sake of a finished assignment, did he even enter the lot. Over the next few days, the student slowly learned what it meant to care for this unknown plant. Gradually the leaves sprouted out of the soil, proudly defiant.
The leaves grew, and so did the thorns of the stem, the student cared for the plant giving it shade, light, and water. As time passed, the sun as warm as his love, finally coaxed the plant out of its bud. The student’s plant unveiled itself perfectly and as the student showed it off to the class, praised it as if it were his own daughter. The student calmly explained that through patience and love, this rose grew, but not without causing some pain and shedding some blood.
The single rose soon became a blossoming bush, and it was time to leave its home in the pot. The student took the plant to a nearby park and transferred it to the moist ground, a perfect place he thought. This simple plant taught him so much, and if it had been any harder, this student would have still chosen to become a gardener.
