SOLEA
"Alright, mamas, I'll catch up with you later," Sante' murmured ending the call, his deep voice carrying a sense of both tenderness and urgency. The past few days had been a whirlwind for him, him being busier than usual.
A mysterious work trip had pulled him away, leaving Solea with questions lingering in the air.
Last Tuesday, the disagreement in Sante's voice as he spoke over the phone had left her on edge. It was clear the call was something important.
The following afternoon, she found herself driving him to the airport as he boarded on a quick trip to the Dominican Republic. In the absence and urgency of him having to leave, she couldn't help but feel a mixture of concern and curiosity.
Instead of staying at his own space, she chose to spend her nights at her brother's house. Even though Sante' was adamant on her staying at his house, she declined, fully aware that the ache of missing him would be more of a reminder.
The anticipation of his return set her heart in flutters, and as he boarded his flight back home, she couldn't help but exhale a heavy sigh with the weight of longing. They made plans for a night out with Nova and Rashad at Top Golf for when he gets back, giving them all an adult night out.
As she lay on her stomach, her fingers danced over her phone, engaged in a lively group chat with Halle and Nova.
They were discussing the possibility of another girls' date. while diving into the conversation, a disruptive message from an unknown number interrupted her thoughts.
799-998-7384: "You a Psycho ass bitch. You got people lookin for me?"
Confusion and alarm shot through her. Quickly sitting up, she struggled with the unsettling realization that someone seemed to be looking for her – a reminder of an incident from her past in Spain. She had changed her number a year ago, and only those close to her knew it.
Choosing to overlook the message, not wanting to over panic. Solea closed her eyes, inhaling deeply to steady herself. Dismissing the message as a possible wrong number, she pushed the unsettling thought to the back of her mind.
