To be 100% honest, I have NO idea what I am doing here. I'm in the middle of JFK Airport, with no adults, and my annoying 5 younger sisters, 2 of whom are currently whining that they forgot their breakfast muffins in the plane. My name is Lina, Lina Halimi, and I'm 15 years old. I have 5 younger sisters, Khadija (13), Jannat (12), Marwa (9), Hawa (6), and Malak (4). I know it's hard to memorize, but we have to get used to it. They. Are. The. Most. Annoying. Girls. Ever.
We were all born in Morocco, with our mom and dad. My mom, Naima, went missing when Malak was born. My dad, Mohamed, was trying his best to sell at his butcher shop, but he could not feed 6 daughters including himself. Which is why me and my sisters are here, we saved up money by selling candy at the beach, enough, for nothing. That's right, we all snuck into the luggage compartment and sat with the luggage for free. Cheap life goals, am I right?
Ok, we aren't that stupid. Me, Khadija, and Jannat raised money to buy tickets for ourselves and the younger three sat on our laps when the flight attendants weren't looking. After 9/11 we've already been investigated too many times because of me and Khadija's hijabs.
Also if you're wondering how we have American visas and could afford expensive tickets? Let's just say my dad has some connections, and when I say connections I mean my super-rich auntie who is basically a celebrity in my hometown of El Jadida, Casablanca. My dad sometimes goes on business trips to New York to visit my aunt. Last time I can remember he went was late 2009.
Here we are. At JFK airport. Without any parents. By ourselves. Nowhere to go. This is going to be fun.
"Lina, out of all states, Manhattan?" Hawa grumbles.
"Manhattan isn't a state dummy," Marwa argues.
"Both of you shush, You could have picked a cheaper state to live in, New York? Come on, be serious right now.", Jannat Says.
"Well, we're here and we gotta make the most of it," I say.
"Most of what?" Malak asks.
We all grumble.
This was going to be a long journey.
