Hattori Heiji was surprised to see Mouri Ran, the gatekeeper of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, standing outside of his shrine.

"Hello, I was wondering if you have any job openings?" Ran asked, a hopeful glint in her eyes.

Heiji eyed her for a moment before asking, "Ran? Dontcha work for Kuroba?"

Ran looked down, her expression full of sorrow. "No, not anymore."

Heiji sighed and shook his head. "Sorry, I 'ont have much money 'ta spare for a gatekeeper. I can't pay ya much."

Ran looked downcast but then pleaded with Heiji, "I don't need much, I just need a place to sleep and a chance to work."

Before Heiji could respond, a voice chimed in from behind them. "I'm bored of being a gatekeeper."

Ran turned to see Conan, who had appeared seemingly out of nowhere.

Conan continued, "I'll pay you to do my job for me. I have a lot of allowance saved up, and it's gotten boring guarding the gate all the time."

Ran's eyes lit up with excitement. "You'd do that for me? Thank you, Conan-kun!"

Conan grinned and handed Heiji a small bag of coins. "Consider it a deal."

Heiji beamed with joy, thankful for the unexpected turn of events. "Thank ya so much, Conan. Ya made my day!"

Conan then looked up at Ran and said, "Hey, can you give me a piggyback ride back to the mansion? I'll pay you a bonus!"

Ran laughed heartily and agreed, "Sure thing, Conan-kun. Hop on."

With Conan on her back, Ran headed back to the Scarlet Devil Mansion, her spirits lifted and her job waiting for her.
