WARNING: Diabetes + Implied disordered eating
Felix had lived with type 2 diabetes since he was little. His mother and his grandfather also suffered from it and so Felix, being unlucky, had been genetically predispositioned to develop it. Sometimes he wishes it wasn't him who had to inherit it but he wouldn't want his sisters to suffer.
He knew better than anyone how to manage his blood sugar, having had the physiological disorder for so long, so it wasn't a concern often. He always kept his receiver with him and checked his sugar levels every so often to make sure everything was normal so the members weren't worried often. Sure, there were times when Chan would take his receiver and check his stats, but it was only natural for the leader to worry more often. Overall, Felix didnt let the disorder get in the way of what he loved.
There were times however when his members had to step in and help for example, if Felix went too low and was too weak to be able to care for himself. The boys had to step in and make sure Felix was drinking juice and constantly checking his dexcom. If Felix were to go too high, they made sure to give him insulin as well as checking on him every few hours. Felix is forever grateful to his members for helping him at his lowest.
Since Felix decided to share his diabetes with the fans, it was obvious that there were stereotypes surrounding the illness. Most fans would comment 'he doesn't look like he has diabetes' or 'he's too skinny to have diabetes' . These comments would annoy Felix because people seemed to think that only obese people suffered from diabetes. In reality, anyone could.
Felix made sure to educate the fans about the different types and he explained that his diabetes was purely down to genetics and not lifestyle choices. This didn't stop the fans from freaking out when Felix was seen with a juice box or packet of sweets. Society seemed to think that because of felix diabetes, he couldn't have any sugar when in reality, he needed sugar to survive.
...
To help Felix regulate his glucose levels, he has a dexcom which he changes every 10 or so days. Felix usually has one of the members help him, he's never been good with needles and the thought of injecting himself made him feel queasy. Felix dexcom was designed to alert him when his levels were becoming too high or too low in order to decrease the chances of him becoming hypo or hyperglycemic. His dexcom gave him insulin automatically if needed which was useful with the boy's busy schedules.
The boys were in dance practice when Felix's dexcom had originally gone off, the high pitched, repetitive beeping couldn't be missed even with their loud music blasting from the speaker in the room. It was late and the boys were tired, however they still had a few hours left. Felix went to fetch his receiver from the counter in the studio reading the statistics warning him his blood sugar was high. Usually, this wouldn't be a problem, his dexcom would just give him a pump of insulin and he would be ok again but this didn't seem to be the case this time.
The members continued to dance along to the music blasting from the speakers letting Felix deal with the issue himself. The boys knew Felix didn't like being smothered when it came to his diabetes, however he needed help with all things involving needles so changing his dexcom or injecting an extra dose of insulin. Felix, despite having diabetes, hated needles. Everything else, Felix was perfectly capable of doing himself and the boys respected that, allowing him the chance to be as independent as possible. Felix had a habit of feeling guilty often.
"Are you ok Felix?" Chan asked, he had clearly seen the look of confusion on the boy's face.
Felix didn't like to worry his members, preferring to deal with these kinds of situations on his own; however, he just couldn't figure out why his dexcom wasn't giving him insulin. It was warning him he was high but wasn't doing anything to help him.
