After a week in hospital, I had finally been given the all clear to go home.
I didn't think I'd been this relieved in a while now, well since I found out we were all okay after regaining consciousness anyway. My shoulder was still bandaged with the dressing being changed daily, and I'd been instructed to keep a sling on for the next week, with bed rest at home in my future.
Marco wasn't gonna let me step foot out of our room, I could feel it.
"That's everything?", my husband checked, looking at the four bags on my bed. Between the clothes I'd had brought from home and the new stuff Jas and Lex had bought me, I had way more than I'd come in here with at the start.
"That's everything", I confirmed with a sigh, "I can't wait to get out of here".
"Fifteen minutes", Marco mused, "we're waiting on Elijah". Sure my husband had driven me here when everything happened, but right now he'd been deemed not clear to drive with his wrist injury; we were waiting on Eli to come and pick us up before he and Zeke came back for Marco's car later.
"And he's taking fucking ages", Zeke slipped out of the bathroom, rubbing his hands on his black cargos and turning to his eldest brother, "is your wrist okay?". He'd been asking him that at least four times daily, and their care for each other was one of my favourite things to see.
"Painkillers are a godsend", was all Marco said as I drew my bottom lip into my mouth, knowing he was in pain.
We both were, and while he kept telling me a gunshot wound was worse than what had happened to him, I couldn't help but worry about him more than myself.
"I'm sorry I crashed here last night", my brother in law said randomly, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.
"You know how I feel when apologies leave your mouth", Marco narrowed his eyes, glancing down at his broken wrist momentarily, "although I would have preferred you didn't sleep in a chair".
"I'm fine", he shook his head, twisting the bottom of his black T-shirt between his fingers, "I uh, heard from Lex about the job-,".
"What job?", Marco butt in, eyebrows furrowed, "at the bookstore?". Zeke nodded, cracking his knuckles as he lowered himself onto the edge of the bed; he seemed to be in better spirits today- way better than he had been when I'd first woken up.
"I didn't wanna tell you in case nothing happened, didn't wanna let you down even more", he chuckled dryly, continuing before Marco could barely open his mouth, "he said he'd like me to come for a trail shift whenever I'm ready, last time he came to visit you".
A smile spread across my face as I squeezed Zeke's shoulder, Marco doing the same a second later.
"I'm really happy for you, yeah? This'll be fun", I grinned at him, "plus you're surrounded by books, what else could you want?".
