Surprise

Months passed by, and to Shuri's promise; she did help Blaire get better. But that didn't mean Blaire was entirely out of the woods. She hadn't been quite ready to face the world yet, but she was making progress.

Her trigger words were finally disconnected from her mind. No one could ever use her as their slave ever again. And to that, she couldn't be happier.

Wakanda, 2018~

I watched as Shuri fiddled around with some mind-boggling technology in her lab. I'd grown a strong friendship with the young prodigy. I could never thank her enough for all that she did for me.

"So, what is it exactly that you're working on, Shuri?" I asked my preoccupied friend. Shuri didn't immediately respond, too focused on whatever it was she was doing. I tried again. "Earth to Shuri. I asked you a question." This finally caught Shuri's attention as she turned to face me.  "Working on random things. That's all. Nothing quite in particular."

I turned my attention away from my friend and back onto the bracelet on my wrist. Shuri had given it to me after I had awoken from my cryo-freeze state. It was a way to keep in touch with my 'family' without the use of cellular devices, as I was told those could be tracked.

I toyed with it, not really paying attention to anything else. The lab door slid open, and in walked the new King of Wakanda. The man who not too long ago had me at the top of his hit list. But that was way behind all of us.

"Shuri, Blaire. I see that the two of you are occupying yourselves?" The King looked at the two of us. I responded with something witty. "She is. I'm just watching her. Whatever she's doing is too complex for my simple mind." The King looked at me and offered me a small humorous smile.

He then looked at Shuri. "If you don't mind, Shuri, I'm going to have to ask your little lab partner to follow me for a moment, if that's okay with you?" Shuri didn't even look up to respond. She just mumbled something and got back to work. I rolled my eyes playfully at her before hopping off the desk I had situated myself at. I then started to follow the King out the door, leaving Shuri to her own devices.

As the door shut behind me, the king began to speak again. "I came to you to inform you of a little surprise that I've managed to organize, Blaire." I looked at him curiously. I wasn't the biggest fan of surprises since I never was quite fond of the unknown, but there was no reason as of now to think that the King would propose an awful surprise for me. "Oh really? And what could that possibly be?" I quickened my pace to keep up with the man.

He didn't turn to face me, but a small laugh erupted from him. "You'll just have to follow me. I promise, it's nothing bad, Blaire." I loosened up a little with his reassurance.

We continued to walk down the seemingly endless labyrinth of hallways until we reached a final door, which I was fairly certain led to the throne room. The King stopped in his tracks, and I, too, paused. He then turned to face me. "Well, go on in. That is where your surprise lies." He then turned away again and left me alone in the hallway. However, I heard him shout one last thing before he left my view entirely, "Just make sure you keep in touch with Shuri. She'll surely miss you!" With that, the King was gone.

I turned myself towards the door warily. What could it be if he told me to make sure I kept in touch with Shuri? I shook my head and walked through the high-tech but yet royal doors.

I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw who was behind them.

A/N: There we have it. The first official chapter in this book. I apologize that it's bad. I'm really trying my best, though, to figure out how I want to write this. And that will take time. I'm not quite sure when the next chapter will be posted, but I'll try not to keep that too long of a wait. Love you all.
