He wiped the blood from the pistol on the guard's clothes. He glanced towards Jin-hyuk, who still wore an expression of anger mixed with a hint of fear. "This is how we maintain order. A lesson for everyone else," the man declared, his eyes scanning the room as if daring anyone to challenge the brutal norm.
The shocking turn of events left Aerum grappling with the reality of the ruthless gang she had inadvertently stumbled upon. Fear coursed through her veins.
Jinhyuk, though visibly disturbed, did not challenge the man's authority. The man's actions were a brutal display of the gang's internal rules.
Aerum knew she had to tread carefully. The gang's ruthlessness was evident, and her inadvertent involvement added an unforeseen layer of danger to her already precarious situation.
Aerum, concealed in the darkness, held her breath as Jinhyuk's gaze lingered for a moment. The dim light barely revealed the uncertainty in his eyes. Could he have noticed her presence? The tension in the air thickened as Jinhyuk's stern expression transformed into a cold stare.
Intrigued by the unfolding drama, Aerum strained to hear the muffled conversations beyond the door. The man with the cigarette had left somewhere, leaving Jinhyuk alone in the aftermath of the brutal execution. The oppressive silence hung in the air, broken only by the distant sounds of the city outside.
Jinhyuk's gaze finally shifted away from Aerum's hiding spot, and he turned his attention to the lifeless body on the floor. The weight of the recent events pressed on him, evident in the lines etched on his face. The room felt like a pressure cooker, ready to explode at any moment.
Aerum's mind raced, contemplating her next move. The shadows provided cover, but the risk of discovery lingered. She needed more information about the gang and the mysterious man who had orchestrated the gruesome scene.
Just as she considered slipping away, a voice echoed in the darkness, piercing the stillness of the hall. It was Jinhyuk, addressing the remaining guards, "Clean up this mess and find those two who ran away. We don't have much time." His voice carried a mix of authority and frustration.
The remaining guards, appearing uneasy and shaken, scrambled to carry out Jinhyuk's orders. Aerum listened intently, hoping to catch any snippets of information that could aid her understanding of the gang's inner workings.
Jinhyuk, now alone in the dimly lit hall, seemed lost in thought. His eyes fixed on the lifeless body, and Aerum sensed a conflict within him.
A creaking sound interrupted the silence, and the door slowly opened. A figure stepped into the hallway, their face partially concealed by the shadows. It was the man with the cigarette, his presence sending a chill down Aerum's spine.
"You did what had to be done," the man said, his voice low and devoid of emotion. Jinhyuk's response was a stern nod, acknowledging the necessity of the harsh measures taken. The man continued, "But we need to ensure that this doesn't happen again. Mistakes can be costly."
Aerum strained to hear more, catching snippets of a conversation about tightening security and reinforcing loyalty.
Just as she contemplated making her exit, a sudden noise echoed from a distant corridor. Footsteps approached, and Aerum instinctively pressed herself further into the shadows. Two figures emerged into the dim light - the guards were assigned to find the two missing.
"They're gone, boss. Couldn't find a trace," one of the guards reported, his voice trembling. Jinhyuk's frustration flared once again, and the man with the cigarette observed the exchange with a discerning gaze. "How do we explain to them that we failed to abduct a total of 50 girls for human trafficking?"
The air became thick with uncertainty as soon as those words were uttered. Upon hearing the ominous phrase "human trafficking," Aerum experienced a gut-wrenching reaction. Disbelief and horror mingled, tightening her stomach. The vulnerability of the girls' lives seemed to teeter on the edge, their fate entwined with the contents of the trucks mere meters away. The weight of the situation bore down on her, sparking a surge of determination.
Her eyes locked onto the trucks a few meters away. Determined to prevent such a scenario. After cautiously checking the room, she turned towards the trucks, eyeing the sturdy lock on the door.
Scanning her immediate surroundings, Aerum's sharp eyes hunted for a tool capable of dismantling the metallic barrier before her. A glint seized her attention - a pipe wrench, casually resting on a nearby table. The cold, unyielding metal reassured her grip as she gathered strength, silently promising aid to those conceivably trapped behind the formidable door.
As the pipe wrench aimed at the lock, poised to break the lock, an abrupt, forceful impact shattered her concentration. Pain radiated from her head as an unidentifiable force collided with her, causing the pipe wrench to slip from her grasp. The metallic clatter signalled the sudden halt of her efforts. Sticking pain throbbed through her head, and the world blurred around her as she crumpled to the floor, consciousness slipping away in the face of an unseen adversary.
