You awaken from your slumber, groggy and tired. Although you had done majority of your homework over the weekend, you still fell asleep late last night, as you were up reading stories on a certain orange app. You go through your morning routine, putting on your uniform and brushing your teeth. You descend the stairs and head to the kitchen, where you quickly grab breakfast and your backpack. Speedily shutting the door behind you, you make your way to school. As you pass the fountain at the front of the school, you see Laurance and Garroth talking to the short girl from before. Distracted, you bump into a werewolf boy with red eyes, "Hey, watch where you're going!" He spits at you. Taken aback, you're not able to form an apology to the brown haired boy before he stalks off angrily. Feeling flustered, you quickly walk into the school building and drop off your things. You hear the bell ring and quickly walk to your first period class.
Your class ended swiftly, and you made your way to your second class of the day, English. As you walked through the open door, you noticed a certain brown-haired boy sitting in your seat.
"Laurence, what are you doing here?" He flashed you a quick grin, "We've been in the same class for a few months now, are you just realising that I'm in your class?" The truth is, you didn't really pay attention to anyone in this class. You weren't interested in making friends and the teacher usually allowed you to do group work on your own. The only time you ever looked up from your book was to glare at the rowdy boys in your class who never seemed to stay quiet. Although Laurance was popular, he wasn't one of those obnoxious guys who messed around when the teacher was trying to teach. Still, you couldn't let Laurance know that you had no clue you two shared a class. "N-no! Of course, I knew that we have this class together. I just meant, well, why are you in my seat?"
"I just wanted to see what your reaction would be. And, as usual, you're flustered."
"Are my emotions funny to you?" you respond sarcastically.
"Yes, especially when your reactions are so cute. Being flustered, you know, is a great look for you."
Before you can respond to him, the teacher starts taking attendance, prompting Laurance to go back to his seat. You sit down, grabbing your class-assigned book from your bag. Looking up after your name is called, your eyes land on Laurance, who winks at you, before turning back and talking to his friends.
You were barely able to focus throughout the lesson, thinking about Laurance's behaviour. What snapped you back to reality, though, was the teacher assigning group projects. Although the groups were only of two people, your teacher wouldn't let you do this solo. You'd need to find a partner. Walking back to your desk, you look around the room for someone to pair up with. Although you didn't have any friends in this class, you didn't have any enemies either. It was time to find an acquaintance.
"Hey, cutie, wanna be my partner?" a familiar voice calls out. Turning to face the sound, you see Laurance, and are immediately confused. He gets closer to you, awaiting your answer. "Uh, sure, but don't you have friends in this class you could have partnered with?
"Well, aren't we friends?" He inquires. "Well- I, yea I guess we are." Man, this was getting awkward, fast.
"Okay, and friends partner up, unless you already had someone in mind?"
"No! I mean, I didn't have anyone else I wanted to partner with."
Your teacher then addresses the class, "Alright students, now that most of you have found partners, I'd like to discuss the assignment you'll be working on. You both will find a piece of romantic literature to analyze. You will then turn the quotes you found and your analyzations into a presentation that you will show to the class. Each presentation should have five quotes, and an analysis for each one. This assignment will be due next week."
You turn to Laurance, expecting his gaze to still be on the teacher, but he was already looking at you. He smiles, "Guess we better get started, huh?" Laurance brings his backpack over to the desk next to yours and pulls out his notebook. While you're researching potential literary items, you see Laurance sketching in his notebook. Despite your best efforts to not be nosy, you couldn't help but look over at what he was drawing. Unfortunately for you, Laurance turned to see your eyes on his notebook page. You could see the faintest bit of blush on his cheeks as he moved his arm, giving you a better view of his work.
"Who is that?" You asked, though part of you already knew, as he had drawn the girl's bow in her hair just like how you had seen it a few days ago.
"Her name is Aphmau, she's in my first period class. We have art together, and our first assignment was drawing her while she modelled for us."
"..So why are you drawing her now?" You hoped the question hadn't come off as rude, you were just genuinely curious as to why he was drawing her outside of class.
Laurance laughed, "Well she was a great model, but we also talked after class and she told me that my drawing of her was beautiful. To be honest with you, I really want to impress her more with my art skills."
"Awe, that's really sweet! But if you don't mind me asking, uh, it seems like you have a crush on this girl?" At this point, you had given up your search for a piece of literature.
"Is.. it really that obvious?" It seemed as though the tables had turned for you two, as he was now the one flustered. You gave him a knowing smile, and he continued, "Well, yea, I guess it's true. She's such a fun and spunky girl, always willing to try new things. She's got a bit of a temper, but overall she's such a sweet person. I really want her to like me how I like her."
Woah. That was a loaded confession, you thought. He really seemed to be head over heels for this Aphmau girl. Up until this point, you hadn't thought about romance much. The way Laurance talked about this girl, however, was so charming that it got the wheels in your head turning. The only attractive people who came to mind for you were Garroth, Laurance, and Katelyn. Your eyes wander back towards Laurance's gaze, and you realize you haven't given him a response. "Wow, she sounds really nice," you state, "how'd you meet her?" Laurance's face lights up, excited that you weren't going to tease him about his new crush. "I met her while she was crying on the floor, I offered to take her to class, gave her a compliment, and then we really connected once we realized we had art class together!" Laurance then went on a long tangent about his experiences with Aphmau since meeting her.
"Sorry, am I talking too much about her? I don't wanna bore you," he says, his cheeks turning a dusty pink. "No no! Not at all, I enjoy paying attention to you. Um.. we might need to work on this project in the library after school, though. We've both been talking so long that we're almost out of work time for today," you point your pencil towards the clock. There were only two minutes before period three began.
Laurance agrees, "Sure, that sounds great! But I could only do it on Thursday afternoon, all the other days I'll be at soccer practice after school. Is that alright?"
"Yea, of course! See you for studying on Thursday!"
And with that, the bell rings.
