Mahmood arrived in Edo on a monday,and headed straight to the crowded camp. Exhausted from his journey and unfamiliar with the city, he started to feel increasingly frustrated. His thoughts kept drifting back to Kano, wishing he had seen Maimoo at least once before leaving. Now, he missed her terribly. He pulled out his phone to read her text message again, for what felt like the 18th time. He wished everything was alright. Perhaps it was his fault, maybe he shouldn't have rushed things. He could have waited until after his service to express his intentions to her family. Impatience seemed to be his downfall.
Lost in his thoughts, Mahmood's mind wandered back to his conversation with his grandfather that morning, just before subh.
"Gidado, you have shown a lack of respect for us by seeking permission to see a girl without informing us first. What do you think of our family? Is it because you want to defy our family traditions? We would have preferred you to marry one of your cousins, even if it meant marrying from your mother's side. Honestly, I am deeply disappointed in you. Have you spoken to your father about this?"
"Yes, I have spoken to him and apologized. I thought I would inform everyone when it time to seek her hand in marriage."
His grandfather's scowl grew deeper. "The same girl you have been seeing for the past four years? I have always suspected that your visits to Maryam's house were for a reason.Allah ya shiryeka."
Just as Mahmood's thoughts began to consume him, his train of thought was suddenly interrupted by a stranger who started speaking to him in Fulfulde. The unexpected encounter took him by surprise, as he was hesitant to engage with someone he didn't recognize. So he didn't reply back
"Sorry bros, i thought dan uwa ne" the guy said with a very broad smile stretching his hand for greetings. "I am Anas,call me Modibbo" he said
"Mahmood, call me Gidado" mahmood replied accepting the guys shake and smiling briefly at the same time
"Wow...You are definately bafulatani,your looks gave you away bro,you probably just don't know how to speak"
Mahmood wanted to reply back in fulfulde,but the mischievious guy in him won't let him so he just played along.
They got acquainted. Anas happens to be a no dull moment with kind of guy...he introduced mahmood to his clique of freinds that are both male and female, mostly christians
Mahmood,being an introvert didn't really feel comfortable with the clique especially with the things going on in his head but he had no choice
Atleast he wasnt alone.
Maimuna is busy at home, feeling overwhelmed and disillusioned with her current lifestyle,she was depressed. So she immersed herself in investigating and uncovering information about her father after she learnt he is alive.
She needed to meet him,she needed answers. She was so keen on meeting him eversince she overheard her mom's conversation with hajiya kulu.
