Jodie wakes up naturally realising she's slept through her alarm and is late already for her first shift at Holby City ED, but also not in her own bed with a guy she doesn't know?
She quickly begins to get herself ready with the same clothes she went out clubbing in last night, she's got a banging headache on top of all the stress of her first day at a new job which she feels as though she'll definitely get sacked from the moment she walks through the door!
Jodie arrives at Holby City ED in the arms of two police officers
Jodie- "LET GO OF ME! I WORK HERE PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE!"
Jodie is greeted by Donna and her fellow new nurses and lets out a huge sigh.
Jodie- "I promise this won't ever happen again okay, I'm sorry"
Donna- "Scrubs are in the back of the staff room meet us back here in 5 minutes, NO LATER!"
Jodie runs to the staff room to change, taking some paracetamol before leaving to meet her colleagues.
Ryan- "And I thought I was gonna be trouble!"
Rida hits Ryan's arm!
Jodie meets them all in the ED reception to be given jobs
Donna- "Right! Ryan you're with Rash in cubicles, Rida you're with Faith in reception and Jodie you're with me in Resus where I can keep an eye on you!"
Everyone goes to their designated jobs and little Cam is left without a job.
Cam- "What about me? What should I do?"
Donna- "Oh Cam! I'm sorry, could you go and grab some medication from the pharmacy for Mrs Smith in cubicle 3 and discharge her please!"
He nods and follows the order.
Jodie follows Donna into cubicles and is instantly hit with a sight she never wanted to see. Her father, someone who she probably hadn't seen for at least 18 years and never did want to see.
She gives him a glare and gets on with her work.
Donna clocks the look Jodie gave Max.
Donna- "Please do not be looking at senior members of staff that way, otherwise you'll get written up and I'm sure on your first day Jodie you do not want that?"
Jodie- "But-"
Donna- "No buts, get on with treating this patient"
Jodie nods.
*A few hours later at lunchtime*
Cam- "Jodie follow me! I have something to show you!"
Jodie- "Cam this better be good as I'm not in the mood right now!"
He opens the Playroom door to find Rida led out on the bed in there!
Rida- "Tadaaaaa!"
Cam- "A chill out zone, where no one can find us!"
Jodie- "This is cool I guess though!"
Jodie goes and sits down on one of the beanbags and Cam sits next to her!
The 3 head off back downstairs to the reception where more chaos is put upon them.
Cam ends up with a patient in cubicles, Rida is doing paperwork, Ryan is treating a patient in cubicles and Jodie again ends up in Resus with Max.
Jodie- *she mutters* "This is ridiculous"
Max- "What the part where you're being pathetic? Or the part when you won't grow up?"
Jodie- "Oh! We're going there then are we? Shall we bring up the fact you never once visited or even texted me when you split up with mum, now she won't even speak to me as I've gone into the same profession as you. Gee great dad you are!"
Max- "Wait Jodie hang on, you don't know do you?"
Jodie- "Know what?" She's awfully confused
Max- *he sighs* "Your mum. She um passed away last month, she was brought into the ED in an awful state after a car accident we did everything we could Jodie, we just couldn't save her. I'm so sorry. If you need the rest of the day off, I can let Donna know."
Jodie *she breaks down into a heap on the floor of tears*
The 3 nurses who joined Jodie today, all looked over to see what the commotion was all about and saw their new friend in hysterics and ran over to comfort.
Rida- *puts an arm around her new friend and pulls her into her chest* "Hey, shhhhh it's okay we're gonna get you through whatever it is that's happened"
The two boys help her up and guide her to the staff room, Cam makes her a cup of tea whilst Rida finds a blanket and Ryan sits next to her comforting her.
Ryan- "Whatever it is that happened, I'm sure it'll work itself out in the end"
Of course he had to come out with a smart comment!
Jodie- "No Ryan it's not, my mum dropped dead due to a car accident and now I'm having to work with my dad alright and he hasn't been in my life for 18 years so I don't see how this is gonna work itself out is it?" She gets proper mad and storms off in a bad mood.
Cam- "I'll go find her don't worry" He brings the tea he's just made
He remembers the place he showed her at lunch and thinks she'll be in there goes up and knocks on the door.
Cam- "Jodie? It's me, Cam" he slowly opens the door to find her hugging her knees in the corner of the room with a teddy bear
Cam- "I made you a cup of tea!"
She lifts her head to accept the cup.
Jodie- *she says quietly* "Thanks Cam, you're really sweet to do that you know"
Cam- "Just being a good friend, I know Ryan wasn't earlier but that's just him don't worry about whatever he says okay"
Jodie nods at his last comment.
Cam comes to sit next to her as she lays her head on his shoulder.
Jodie- "I don't know why no one told me sooner about my mum, I thought she hated me"
Cam- "No one could ever hate you Jode, you're an incredible girl and I've only just met you"
Jodie smiles leaning in for a kiss, Cam also goes into kiss her their lips touch.
Ryan walks past the door slightly ajar and takes a little picture to tease them about it later.
Jodie gets up smiling.
Jodie- "Thanks Cam, you're amazing you know that right you should never be so shy trust me"
Cam- "I dunno Jodie I've lived in the shadow of Ryan for most of my Uni life so he's gotten all the girls I never could've had"
Jodie- "Don't worry about him, he's an asshole and will get what's coming for him!"
