The next day Aurie Cartier had entered the library. There was nothing she loved more than the books she so desperately cleaved. She had a thirst for knowledge. Plus it was time away from everyone celebrating her victory of taking down Imelda. Not that she didn't mind the praise. She very much liked it. A lot.
Rounding a corner she found Sebastian and Ominis talking. She quickly hid behind a bookshelf. Grabbing a random book to hide her face in as she listened in.
"Ominis I do not need you calling me an idiot. I already know I am." He sighed. His hand raking back his messy brown locks.
"You don't need me to point out the obvious, Sebastian. You are in fact an idiot. She's practically royalty. I understand things have been different lately." He paused a certain sadness lingering in cloudy blue eyes. "She's betrothed."
Sebastian looked over at Ominis. He clenched his fists. "You think I don't know this? You think I wanted this? To fall in love with her? No...but she looks at me with those blue eyes and I just..."
Ominis sighed. "I know, Sebastian. It's just wrong. We both know that."
"And it's not like she doesn't want to be married to Septimus. He looks at her like he's afraid of her. I just...why is this so hard?" Sebastian sighed and held his face in his hands. Feeling defeated.
So they are engaged...curious. She was more intrigued with the conversation. Glad that she didn't have to be intended for anyone. Her family never cared that much to secure their legacy. As in her father also didn't deem anyone worthy of his time. But if they didn't want to be wed...
Ominis patted his friend's back. Truly feeling sorry for him. He was about to confess something to him but someone had bumped into Aurie just in time and she had dropped the book she had her nose in. A high pitched noise released from her mouth.
"Well that was rude. Could say excuse me. Vazey that one." She sighed and looked over at Ominis and Sebastian with a cheeky grin. "Bonjour gentlemen."
"Aurie..." They both said together. Ominis's face had the look that he knew what she was up to. Sebastian just smiled nervously.
"Well I've got to go. Carry on." She says to break the awkward tension. She practically vaulted out of the library.
Her body slamming into another person. Could this day get any worse? Her golden eyes met that of deep cobalt. A man twice her height and hair color that matched her own. Laurent. Her darker, more secretive cousin. She always felt like he was a personality clone of Antoine. Her uncle.
"Watch where you're going, Aurielle." He says harshly as he dusts himself off. "You're not up to more trouble, are you?"
"C'est absurde." Aurie was highly offended, but given last year's circumstances... "I have been well behaved, Laurent."
"Then why run out of the library, dear cousin?" He lowered his posture to make eye contact with her. This man was 6 ft and 6 inches. She was only a mere 5 ft 3 inches. On the smaller side. His gaze made her body cold.
She gulped. "I am running late for one of my classes." A lie. But she felt like she could get away with it.
"Something tells me you're lying, Aurielle." A smirk lined his face as he shifted his weight back onto his feet. Eyes glowering down on her delicate features.
Her eyes narrowed. "I am not lying and stop calling me Aurielle. Not everyone needs to know my real name."
"Oh, afraid people will hear?" He rolled his eyes.
Aurie couldn't help but look over her shoulder and around her. "Oui, actually. Aurielle died when she came here."
"Or did she die along with your parents' love for you?" He chuckles lowly to himself before walking away.
Aurie stood there for a moment. Trying not to show how much his comment hurt. Her parents were everything to her when she was a child. Granted they fought constantly when they were together, but when she had quality time alone with them it was great. Her mother took her to Paris to get dresses and pastries from her favorite boulangerie. Her father would teach her of the family business and spend time in their enormous library. Just reading. She missed those moments. Then one mess up to their precious reputation she was cast out like garbage. A mistake she will never be able to take back.
She sighed and began walking to her next class. Which was Herbology. She stepped into the greenhouse and saw her small group of friends. Avril and Coral are locked in conversation. Septimus's face seemingly lights up the moment she enters the room. Sebastian and Ominis close behind her. Professor Garlick fumbled to put down her potted plant.
"You must be our new iris." She giggled into her hand. "That's a French flower if you didn't already know." The herbology teacher had very long braided ginger hair and deep coffee colored eyes. She gestured for the students to look over at her.
It was about then that Artorias had stumbled into class too. Professor Garlick smiled at him and motioned him to stand next to Aurie.
"Class please give a warm welcome to Aurie Cartier and Artorias de Val...Valen.." she paused. "Well...these two French flowers." She giggled again. "Go find a seat, you two."
Aurie found a seat closer to Avril and Coral. Septimus was also right next to her. It was a good thing plants were her forte. Or else she may as well fail this class with how distracting he was. Her eyes went to Artorias who was laughing with some hufflepuff boy with short unruly red hair and freckles. His eyes reminded her of shallow water. They were a bright turquoise color. She's never seen him around before, but the way he seemed to goof off in class made her roll her eyes. Some people just lack respect.
She looked over at Avril and Coral with a gentle wave just before they were handed Chinese chomping cabbages in their planting pots. Avril gives Aurie a look that says she has something important to tell her soon.
