The scariest part of healing was the unknown.

Liza knew who she had been before the crash. She could recall the bubbly, sassy woman who was outgoing and a bit of a partier when the occasion presented itself. She could easily remember how she never shied away from meeting new people and was considered one of the best at networking. She could do her makeup in her sleep and experimented with clothing and hairstyles. She was fun outside of work and reliable within her company. She was likeable and had many friends.

But that had changed.

Healing was terrifying, because she would never be like the old Liza. Just like her physical wounds, her mental injuries would leave scars that would never fade. It didn't matter what she did, or how hard she worked at it—scars never left. Her mental state would forever be altered, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to meet the new Liza.

What if the new Liza didn't ever want to go outside again? What if the new Liza, even after healing, could never make eye contact with a stranger? Would she still like makeup? Would she enjoy experimenting with fashion? Would she travel often? Would she work again?

She wanted to heal. She did. But what if the new Liza was a disappointment? What if she worked herself near to death in her efforts, only to stare in the mirror and realize that she was still a failure?

She wasn't sure she could take that leap. But, on the opposite side of the 'unknown' was the 'what-if'?

If she didn't even try to heal, she would always wonder. What if the new Liza could go outside? What if she could make friends and go out for drinks? What if she got back into fashion and makeup and trying new restaurants? What if she did like going to festivals and traveling? Or maybe she wouldn't be able to do all that, but perhaps the new Liza would have at least three friends, and maybe she could go out to the quieter parts of town.

Either way, there was only one way to know for sure.

Healing was terrifying, but there was nothing more horrifying than staying where she was now, scared and stuck within four small walls.

She would have to take that step, no matter how scary or painful.
