She was seething.

She was fucking seething. Reducing their hours by that much was ridiculous? Half an hour a day? That equated to three and a half hours per week. She was losing three and a half hours of work every week. How much time would compound from that? That was time she couldn't afford. That was time the castle couldn't afford. Because her staff kept the castle running.

And the addition of switching jobs? Voorha understood the need for change. Without change life was boring. Mundane. Repetitive. She understood that.

But long ago, her and Drahule had agreed that the rotation of jobs would become a burden for them to carry. They had to keep track of everything. The old system was working. The castle was spotless. Every job down the most meaningless was cared for. Everything was done on time.

And now Drahule just had to change his thinking.

It was nearly impossible for Voorha to keep the smile on her face as Drahule delivered his new mandate. He didn't want to look like the bad guy. Oh no. He was Lord Drahule - he was everyone's savior.

The thought caused the older lady's stomach to churn.

"Shut up." She couldn't help but utter those words as she glared at the mirror, "You have no right. No right!" Her volume increased with each word as she stared into the very depth of her reflection.

"He's been nothing but good to you! You serve him! He's done so much for you! And this is what you do! Ungrateful!"

Before Voorha had even registered what she was doing, her fist flew into the mirror - right where he nose had been. The violent action had taken her by surprise. Never had she suppressed such a rage. Never had she released such a rage. And it felt good. It felt good to let her feelings fly into her fist. It felt good to watch the glass crack and shatter around her hand.

And it felt oh so satisfying to watch the blood drip down the cracked glass.

"Fucking Hiro." Contrary to the harshness of her words, Voorha had no malice behind them. Only a deep sadness. "Fucking Hiro just had to pick the little commoner."

To her own surprise, hot burning tears filled her eyes, "I thought I taught him better than that. I thought . . ." She trailed off as she gazed at her cut hand, "I thought he would do better than that."

Her eyes stung badly. It was an odd feeling - one that she quickly found she despised. Her chest ached painfully. Her lungs felt as if they were being squeezed. As if the air was being forced out of her.

It was awful. It was like being a child again - a hew child who had no control over themselves. A child who had no power, no way to change anything around them.

"My boy," a single tear overflowed from her right eye, "my sweet boy."

Her hand fell from the glass and Voorha slowly sank to her knees. Her head rested against the vanity desk as she quietly sobbed. "My poor little boy. I'm so sorry."

The atmosphere in the servant's quarters had shifted dramatically. Hell, it felt as if the castle had changed. The announcement of the new plan had injected a sense of hope and optimism among the staff. As you and Eurielle made your way towards Hiro's room. you too couldn't help but bask in the possibilities.

It was rare to see such a positive change in the castle. Clearly Drahule's decision had lifted the spirits of the workers. It was abundantly clear that change was paramount for the staff. Something that Voorha most likely didn't understand. She appeared to champion a rigid system.
