Hiro sighed as he heard your breathing even out. The pair of you had been sitting in silence for over an hour - the prince staring at the garden ahead of him with your soft breath fanned across his neck.
Your peace was putting him at ease.
The concerns of his engagement . . . the fear of his coronation - it was all slipping away by the moment. If only he could freeze time in that very second.
He could have easily died a content, happy man.
Inevitably, you stirred from your sleep, your hand pulled away from where he cradled it. As your eyes popped open, you found yourself squinting. The sun was awfully bright at this hour. And the bench - well it wasn't the most comfortable place to take a nap.
You reached upwards and yawned, stretching out the cramps from the scrunched up position. A soothing hand ran up and down your back easing whatever tenderness you felt.
A smile caressed Hiro's lips, "Good morning dear. Nice sleep?"
You nodded your head in a groggy motion prompting a chuckle from the prince. "It was wonderful! I really hope I haven't kept you from anything too important! You could have woken me."
"Why the hell would I do that? I just got to escape my duties in favour of watching my beautiful future wife. I would take that over anything any day of the week. Despite Eurielle's prejudice, I'm not an idiot."
The reddening in your cheeks were only combatted by the rose bush beside you. An endearing look crossed Hiro's face.
"You're very sweet to care. I don't believe I have much to attend to today. Would you care to take a small stroll with me?"
Lies. He had what felt like a million and one things to attend to. For starters, he had to discuss tossing the engagement with his father. Until the entire thing was discussed properly with Analise's family, nothing was set in stone.
Then there was the impending ball. Tomorrow evening. He had much to prepare for it. Analise would be there and Hiro certainly didn't want to wait longer than he needed to in order to call the engagement off. Both families were noting the untoward attitude the children presented. It was - once again - formalities. It felt as if formalities were all his life ran around.
But none of it mattered. No matter how impulsive it would seem later when he was scrambling to get stuff done, Hiro knew that the minor time he spent with you would be worth it.
It always was.

There was truly no polite way to opt out of attending the ball with Hiro. It would be awfully rude of you.
Though there was (what felt like) an endless list of reasons not to go, there were some clear advantages. The gathering would give you the perfect opportunity to mingle with royals and it was high time you learned how to converse with them.
Especially ones who were not Hiro.
The thought caused you to gulp. Royals that weren't Hiro. That was bound to go down a treat.
Some of the horror stories you heard from Hiro through the years left a bitter taste in your mouth. These people - at least some of them - were borderline maniacal.
For starters, there was Bardroy People-slayer. He was dubbed that for a reason - and certainly not a pleasant one.
Then, there was Shiara Melocona. Rumor had it her father killed her possible suitor by her request. Public execution - one so brutal all knew to step away. Hiro himself stated that he himself wandered away when Shiara entered a room.
