Ochako Uraraka was shocked to hear that her class' beloved teacher had expelled one of his first-year students. She didn't believe it when she heard the news, but when she checked the claim with Mr. Aizawa, she was floored.
The student's expulsion was exactly why she was tasked to fill the spot for the first years' lesson. Since there were now only nineteen in Class 1A, All Might had kindly asked her to help him in the upcoming battle training, just to even out the teams. Ochako also saw this as an opportunity to guide her underclassmen with some of her own experience; with both Mr. Aizawa and being a hero in general. Maybe she can help a fellow student avoid expulsion.
Ochako donned her hero costume and ran out to meet the first years. Excitement filled her bones, anxious to meet her underclassmen. Once she blinked away the glare of the sun, the bubbly girl was graced with a mirage of colors and costumes, all belonging to the students. All Might was already there, dressed in black slacks and a white button-up shirt. A much more casual outfit than when he first taught with her class, "Uraraka, glad you could make it," All Might waved her over.
"Of course!" she piped up.
All Might turned to his class, "Everyone! Please, listen up!" Once the chatter died, the gaunt man continued, "Since this class now contains an odd number of students, Ochako Uraraka from Class 2A will be assisting in this training."
Ochako raised her head high, "Hello everyone! I know that it may be hard, but please treat me as a fellow classmate. I look forward to training with you all."
The students clapped politely after she finished speaking. Some looked downcast, not wanting a reminder of their first day. Ochako didn't blame them.
She dashed down to join the first years' ranks, all adorned in their colorful -or lack thereof- costumes, and reminisced about the first time she put on her costume. A wave of sadness crept into her lungs, the kind not so easily pressed back, the feelings she had then, so green, so naïve. She hoped that this new lot of soon-to-be heroes wouldn't have to suffer the same crushing blows her class did.
"It's time to begin your first practical lesson," All Might's voice boomed, echoing across the concrete grounds, "This is a battle training exercise; you will be paired off into teams of two, and face off against each other in combat."
It seemed that All Might's speaking skills had improved. His explanation of the first lesson he gave to her class that first year was downright incoherent.
Look at me, getting all nostalgic.
Soon came the time to separate into teams. Various students reached into the box and pulled out the spheres with letters printed on them, and sorted themselves into teams. Ochako was the last to take a sphere, labeled 'E'. She found her partner easily enough, a tall, lanky boy with shoulder-length black hair that fell over his eyes. She approached him cheerily, and noticed the matching sphere in his grip.
"Looks like we're partners!" the round-faced girl addressed him, "You already know my name, but what's yours?"
"Do not speak to me, or else you'll be cursed. The Black Knight works alone," the boy slid back and struck a ridiculous pose.
"Um..." Ochako gaped, speechless, "Well, we're gonna have to communicate for this training. We have to work as a team."
"I will not be seduced by you, temptress!" the boy exclaimed again as he jabbed his finger at her.
This is going nowhere. Ochako thought in defeat. She glanced about the grounds, hoping that her partner had a friend somewhere that could assist in their communication issue. And since her underclassman made no move in the name of cooperation, Ochako made her way into the crowd, and was glad she did, as the boy's classmates were infinitely more helpful.
