Leo and Calypso walked through the field, towards the house, and stopped at the back porch. The house looked run down and old, moss grew on the boards of the porch and creeped up the walls. Curious, Leo let go of Calypso's hand and climbed the creaky steps of the old house.
"Leo, what are you doing?" Calypso said tentatively. He turned back to her and walked back down the stairs, gently taking her hand.
"Don't worry, this house looks like it's been abandoned for years," Leo said to her his voice quiet and tired. To Calypso, Leo looked like he would topple over any minute now. Soot covered his skin and clothes, adding to the darkness of his eye bags. She couldn't disagree with him, not at his state.
"Okay...," she sighed. Leo saw her uncertainty, but right now, all he wanted to do was sleep. In a bed.
"If there's someone in there we can just book it, we have a flying dragon remember?" He smiled at her and dragged her up onto the porch. She silently complied, holding tightly on his hand. The boards creaked slightly under their weight, adding to the noises of the night. Leo tried the handle of the door. Locked. What had he expected? He pushed harder, twisting the knob more frantically to see if it would give way. He gave up with a frustrated sigh, plopping down on the steps. Leo's exhaustion riddled brain couldn't manage another challenge. He had just died and come back to life for the gods sake! What more does the universe want from him? Calypso sat down beside him, placing a hand on his back comfortingly. He leaned against her, his eyes feeling heavy.
"Come on, Leo. Let's keep trying, maybe a window is open?" Calypso suggested softly, noticing his dismay. Leo's heart fluttered a bit at her concern.
"you're right," he muttered. As he got up he found his hand latching onto Calypso's hand almost unconsciously. Feeling her warm skin against his own sent a wave of heat through his body, cascading down to the tips of his toes. Through her touch he felt lighter, more at ease. Almost as if he had just had a cup of warm coffee, warm enough to sigh a breath of relief as it slides down your tired throat. Maybe it's just her former godly powers, but, wow. Women are magical.
The two walked around the house, trying each window to no avail. He began to make a show, whining with every locked window, but Calypso just gave him a look and went on her way. Leo watched her walk off, staying put where he was. Frustration was slowly setting in and his stubbornness was getting the best of him. He slumped down against the side of the house and closed his eyes, succumbing to his exhaustion. He had never felt this tired before. Never in his life did he want more than to just sleep. Quite frankly, Leo wouldn't mind if he sat there, against that old crumbling house, for months. The ground beneath him was cold and hard, but it didn't bother Leo in the slightest. Little ants crawled on his dirty skin, seemingly lost.
"Leo!" The demigod heard Calypso's voice from around the corner. He perked up slightly, hopeful that she had found a way in.
"The front door is open!" she called, sticking her head around the corner. Leo heaved himself up and jogged over to the former goddess.
"Are you serious?" He asked, skeptical.
Calypso just smiled and dragged him to the wide open front door. He could cry. He knows they're technically doing something illegal, but nothing is physically stopping him from running inside, so it's basically fair game, right? With that logic in mind, Leo and Calypso quietly made their way inside the old house. The first thing that hit him was the smell. It wasn't a bad smell. It was musty, stale. As if no one had lived there for years. No matter how hard they tried to be quiet, the floorboards creaked wherever they stepped, announcing their arrival. The room in which they stood was in a state of slight disarray. A thin layer of dust covered everything, shelves, the light fixtures, everything. Books and papers were strewn across the floor, left to rot in the same spot forever. Other than that, the house seemed almost untouched. Whoever had lived here last left in a hurry and never came back.
The two climbed the rickety stairs leading to the second floor, holding hands as they did so. Leo ushered Calypso along into the open doorway of a bedroom. She hesitantly followed him, her chest lightly pressed against his back. The room was small. Inside sat one bed, perfect for two people. A desk was placed right under a window facing the field where Festus was sleeping peacefully. Leo smiled at his large metal friend before turning back to Calypso. She stared at him, her eyes unreadable. Her face was a mixture of worried, happy, concerned, and Leo didn't know what to make of it.
"You probably shouldn't lay in the bed with your dirty clothes on," she said quietly, not making eye contact. Leo blushed profusely, looking down at his filthy clothes.
"Go wash up, I'll see if there's any clothes in here you can borrow." she put a hand on his forearm, slowly sliding it down to his hand. Butterflies, butterflies, butterflies. Leo simply nodded, leaving the room to find the bathroom. He wondered if there was even any running water in the house. Once he found the bathroom, he slipped out of his shoes and socks at once. He turned the faucet, not expecting any water to come out, but was surprised when a gush of clean water came spouting out. Relieved, he began to undress while tinkering with the shower. Soon enough he got a fresh stream of warm water coming from the faucet. Leo stepped under the water and allowed himself to melt into its warmth.
After washing up, Leo found a fresh pair of clothes outside the bathroom door. He tried them on, excited to have clean clothes cling to his skin, rather than scorched ones. The white t-shirt Calypso had laid out for him hung off his scrawny frame, way too big for his build. The pants weren't much different, he had to tie the strings as tight as they could go to prevent them from slipping off. He was quite comfortable despite the size of the clothing.
When Leo was done dressing, he made his way back down the hall towards the room Calypso occupied. He slowly opened the door and found Calypso laid in bed, her eyes trained on the window that sat across the room. Devoid of curtains, the window cast a bluish light into the room, illuminating Calypso's face.
"Hey," Her sweet honey voice drifted to his ears, circled his body, and cascaded him in warmth. Oh, how he loved her voice. He hadn't noticed how long he had been staring at her until she spoke again.
"Come here, Leo," She said, patting the space on the bed beside her. Leo timidly walked towards the woman, climbing into bed with her. His heart shook his entire body. In bed. With a girl?! He tried not to freak out. He really tried. He was lost in his own thoughts until he felt Calypso's hand on his cheek. She gently turned his head to face her. When his eyes met with her's, his heart skipped a beat, his thoughts all jumbling together. Calypso smiled at him. A warm smile. A beautiful smile. She rested her forehead onto his, their noses lightly brushing as she did so.
"Relax," she said. It was a simple word. Only 5 letters. Two syllables. But it was enough for Leo's muscles to unclench, for his mind to stop whirring, for his heart to stop pounding. She was magic. They laid there, facing each other, breathing in time. Leo wanted to kiss her so bad. So horribly bad. So he did. He kissed her lightly at first. Tasting her top lip, then her bottom one. He took his time, deepening the kiss as he did so. His hand found her chin, and he lifted her head just slightly, just enough for their lips to interlock like two puzzle pieces finally finding their match. Leo felt as Calypso wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling his body closer to hers. He was on fire. Not literally, of course. At least he hoped.
Then, oh then, he felt calypso's perfect lips leaving soft warm kisses along his neck. It tickled. Just slightly. Leo shut his eyes tightly, hugging the beautiful girl tighter. He was enjoying every second of it. But, then she stopped.
"I think you're enjoying this too much," she giggled, pulling away from the boy. "You're basically my girlfriend at this point!"
"Hey, men can be submissive too, Cal," Leo huffed. "There's nothing wrong with enjoying kisses from a girl!"
"Oh, my!" Calypso gasped comically. "Don't tell me I'm your first?"
"I will neither confirm, nor deny," Leo said, putting off the obvious truth. Calypso giggled once again, her cheeks tinged a light shade of pink.
"Go to sleep, weirdo," she said, brushing a piece of curly brown hair out of his face. "You deserve it."
"Yes ma'am, roger that." Leo teased, a playful grin plastered on his face. Calypso lightly hit him, rolling her eyes.
"Good night, Leo."
"Good night, Cal."
And with that Leo promptly fell into a deep sleep.
