It's been two months since Kurt had lost custody of Frances Bean and went into rehab. As soon as I found out that he was in rehab I came home and left him a note. I'm sure he was happy to see it. But today is the day his custody is restored and he gets out of rehab to see his daughter for the second time. A woman named Emily came to my house today with my little bean and stuff for a baby.
"I don't owe the government no money for that right?" I asked.
"No ma'am, right now we are fighting Ms. Love to get you and Mr. Cobain full custody. There is evidence in this little one that Ms. Love did heroin early in the pregnancy so we don't know how badly it'll affect her if it does at all," explained Emily.
"Thank you for letting me know but shouldn't you let Kurt know instead of me?" I replied.
"You're welcome. May I wait here because Kurt leaves rehab today?" Emily said.
"Yes, of course! Would you like some food or a drink? I just made a fresh batch of lemonade."
"A small glass of lemonade will suffice, thank you."
We sat down at the dining table and talked about what we could do for Kurt to keep him off drugs. Emily then went on about my little bean, saying that she's growing very well and healthy for a child whose mother did drugs. I felt bad for Frances Bean because she has a mother who does drugs.
"I'm home!" yelled a familiar voice from the living room.
"In here Kurt!" I yelled back.
As he walked in his eyes widened at the sight of Emily. She smiled and greeted him warmly and asked him to sit with us. I stood up to kiss him when he walked over and he hugged me tightly as we kissed. Emily laughed a little and asked us both to sit down to talk about Frances because it was important.
"So, as Ms. Becker knows, we are fighting to get you, Kurt, full custody of Frances. Since Courtney did do heroin while pregnant she won't be seeing this little one anytime soon. What can we do to keep you off drugs to keep Frances and Ms. Becker safe in this household?" said Emily.
"Well, based on witnessing all my drugs being poured down the street water drain and burned, I think I'll be better knowing that I'll lose Frances and Amy the same day. I'll do my best to stay clean," Kurt replied.
"Good, now, let's get everything set up in Frances's room," said Emily.
We walk upstairs and turn left to walk into her room which I failed to set up a month ago. I set Frances, who's in her car seat, on the floor a few feet away from the door. Kurt and Emily brought up the crib box, set it down on the opposite wall of the door, and I started to set it up as they brought up everything else for Little Bean. Just as I finished putting the crib together, Frances started crying and I rushed downstairs to grab a bottle as Kurt was running up with it.
"I don't know if she's hungry or not but I thought I'd try and be a good dad," he said.
"Thank you, I was just running down for this," I replied. "You're gonna be a great dad."
"Don't lie to me, Amy, I know you're doubting me," he argued.
"I'm not Kurt! Frances is still crying, can we finish this later?" I yelled back.
He backed off and I went to give Frances her bottle. She calmed down as soon as she saw the bottle, she drank it, and then fell asleep. As I placed her in her crib, Kurt and Emily walked in and asked if she was alright.
"Is she okay?" Kurt asked.
"Yes, she is fine, she was just hungry and tired," I answered.
Emily jumped in asking about who's going to care for her while we're working. We told her that I own a few law firms across the states and a few in London so I don't really work too much anymore.
"Okay, so Ms. Becker will take care of Frances while you're on tour or with the band. Kurt, how often will you be home so Amy can have time to herself since the baby isn't really hers, unless she adopts?" asked Emily.
"Umm, a week, week and half a month, I think?" Kurt answered, sounding unsure.
I raised my right eyebrow, questioning if he was really going to be home that often. I mean, he's almost always gone on tour for at least a month at a time. Maybe he would start taking me and Frances with him. But, who knows maybe he won't.
"Are you skeptical, Ms. Becker?" asked Emily.
"He can sometimes be gone for at least a month at a time. But maybe he'll bring us on tour more often," I answered.
"Okay, I'll take you two on tour more often, but, since she's still very little you'll have to stay backstage with her," Kurt said.
"Okay."
"So, tour with the baby every other month and in between each month Kurt is home taking care of his daughter while Ms. Becker relaxes," Emily concluded once we came to an agreement. Then she left.
Kurt and I sat on the couch and stayed silent on opposite ends of it. Kurt every once in a while would clear his throat to have some sort of sound to break the silence. I kept my lips pressed tightly together in a thin line while sitting awkwardly.
"Okay, I'm not letting the two of you travel more than a state away while I'm on tour," said Kurt.
"That's okay. I do want you home more often, I can't do this alone without panicking about not doing this right," I say.
"Alright, so, we agree about this?" he asked. "I don't want you to commit to something that you can't work with."
"I'll manage just fine. I'm the CEO of Becker Law, I can bring her in and do my work," I replied.
"Okay, let's get some food. When she wakes up do you want to go to the diner on Wellspring Road back in Aberdeen," Kurt suggested.
I remember the time I brought EJ there and when we walked in Kurt, Krist, and James were sitting there, telling us to sit with them. That was the day that EJ put money on James taking advantage of me, he got pissed and walked out like a little bitch.
"Let's do it!" I answer. "By the way, welcome home, Kurt."
