On a desert road made of asphalt not dirt our characters in a truck to a small other town now a ghost town years later only one person lives here and is caretaker of store.

Nick driving in a car in the hot desert as Mason and Clare are sitting in the back. "How about some tunes?" Went Nickolas turning on the radio. "STARMAN!" Went the radio then Mason turned it off. Nick turned it back on. "STARMAN!" The radio went again before being shut off by Mason once more. "Why you turning it off driver picks the station." Nick went. "Are you trying to attract one of those beasts?" Went Mason making his statement of the beasts. "Calm down I'm sure well be fine.- NICK WATCH OUT!" Nick went looking back for a second at Mason as Clare looked and warned Nick of what he was about to crash into until he did crash into it. "Damn what the hell was that?" said Nick. "It has bipedal legs no eyes, take a look at the mouth kind of looks like those worm things we saw." stated Clare. "You think maybe this thing is connected somehow to the other one... the worm?" Questioned Mason. "I don't know, but that's what I'm afraid of." Said Clare. "Ya'll two definitely know more of these things then I do." spoke Nickolas.
Clare puts her hands on her hips "You think there's more?" she asks. "There was 4 when we were chased and there's this dead one of course there's more," Mason said to her.
Nick walks up to the body. "Nick what're you doing?" Clare asks. "Just checking how is it they see us." he says. He walks up to the body, kneels down and touches it, his hand on the rough skin, down to the skull and he feels something different at the top. He feels something feeling slimy and then he feels a slit opening, as he tries to open this slit it's not what he thinks it is. It opens as he pulls it all slimy a reddish color and the heat sensor opens. "Ew, Nick that's disgusting." Clare says. "Oh come on don't you officers see gross stuff like this. Anyway, this must be how they see. See this," he says pointing and touching a part of the sensor, "It's a external pit organ, soft tissue, they must use it like eyes for them it's how they see. They sense heat." He says. "Okay great anatomy lesson we should get moving I don't want to be here more than we have to." Mason speaks. They start walking.
It's been half a mile. "So Nick, you've seem down, your dad drinking again?" asks Clare. "Yeah, it's been hard from mom's passing. We where supposed to be here for a funeral but he insisted on taking some belongings. We didn't know she had so much to get rid of and so much to pass down. We tried many things but it took longer than it should as he'd mourn he would also turn to drinking in doing so. I still work in taking care for him now that she's gone but it's just hard you know." He told her. "I'm sorry for your loss. How long has it been, from her passing?" She asked. "About two years." He says. "You ever think he just wants to settle down here?" She asks him. "Well, maybe but from what's happening to him or happening now around us it's not safe. It's why I want to leave well not these beasts but for my dad I want to see him get better." He conversates to her. "Hey, no worries you're not alone in loss I lost a good friend here once." She says. "How'd you lose him, her, they, whatever there's so many genders nowadays." He mentions and asks. She chuckles a bit before speaking, "I don't know just disappeared he walked out the door for one day to go to LA but he never came back since then I'd be working twice as hard for not another person to go missing. never found who or what is declining Solace's population." She said back. "My mother was said to have gone the same missing for while enough to be proclaimed dead it was worded out by my aunt. You think these things are the cause for the missing people?" He asked her. "Maybe." she says back to him. "Guys it's getting dark maybe we should take camp." Mason interrupted. "I'd say we keep moving." Suggested Nickolas. "We've been walking 2 miles in the desert." Mason said. "Fine, but we leave at dawn." Said Nick. "Find rock at least I don't want to be snatched by one of those worm things." Spoke Clare. "Look there, a collection of boulders to walk on" Mason said. They walked on it and sat down.
So they sat down. An hour by hour each of them fell asleep or at least Mason and Clare. Nick stared into the dark. Having to use the bathroom he scared to be on soft ground to use it knowing there's a sound based subterranean predator out there somewhere he took a wizz to the soft ground as he stood on the ledge of the boulder. Done he about to walk back to the sitting position turning back an ostrich behind im out of nowhere scared him. "Augh, ugh, it's just a Ostrich. Go on bird shoo, get out of here." he said to it. It let out a ostrich sound and left quietly running off to another boulder nearby as rain started to fall in the cold desert night cold enough for it to snow. Clare shivering, Mason not seeming to be used to the temperature Nick lends his jacket he's been wearing since the car over her, and she slowly stops shivering. Then a loud sound is heard. Sounding like one of the worms it sent shivers down his spine. "It's just far away. You're safe. safe. Besides your on solid rock your even safer. Safer." He says to himself. He huddles holding himself arms wrapped around his legs neck on his knees as he tries to stay awake but falls asleep. "Huh so cold." he feels its too quiet and scared by silence takes out his MP3 and pulls earbuds in his ears listening to a song.
-I walked across, an empty land. I knew the pathway like the back of my hand. I felt the earth, beneath my feet. Sat by the river and it made me complete-
The three sleep for hours until morning the sun comes up. He listened to the song and felt not alone and more calm and at ease. "Better" he said to himself closing his eyes. He falls asleep.
