I wake up to the sound of lightning and then thunder close after. Alex lifts his head from behind me and glares out the window. "Really? I'm trying to sleep here." He mumbles and then drops his head so it's buried in my neck and his arms are wrapped possessively around my stomach. I look at the dashboard to see what time it is, expecting 3:00 in the morning, but instead I see it's almost noon. It's raining so hard that the light from the sun can't even get through.
I sigh and snuggle further into Alex. His arms pull me closer and we fall asleep again.

BOOM
The sound of thunder once again. I'm jolted awake and so is Alex. I check the clock. 2:00. "Well I guess we should get up." I say sitting up. Alex whines but gets up. We can't really go outside. So I fish for the bag I brought and pull out a deck of cards.
"You never cease to amaze me, my dear." Alex says plucking the cards from my hand. "Oh my god! Are these Zombie playing cards?" He asks with a grin. "You are one amazing girl!" I says, then leans over and kisses me slow on the lips. My heart skips a beat. He pulls away with a red face and looks down at the cards to distract himself.
"Do you know how to play war?" I ask, "it's one of my favorites, me and my grandparents used to play it when I was little."
"It's one of my favorites too!" Alex exclaims and starts dealing the cards.

A few hours later, we're putting the cards away. I beat Alex every time. He seems a little grumpy that he lost, but happy to be with me.
"The storm seems to be the same, what do you wanna do now?" Alex asks, having trouble putting the cards in gently, he's taken to forcefully shoving them in.
I chuckle. "We could take a nap, it's getting late again." I suggest.
"That sounds good, Oh! I just remembered that there's a blanket under the seat. Will you get it?" Alex asks. I gladly climb onto the floor to grab it.
CRAAKKKKKKKKK
Lightning strikes. Hitting the tree right next to the car. I scream at the top of my lungs and curl into a fetal position. Alex climbs down so that he's holding me. He reaches behind him and pulls out the blanket I had forgotten the minute lightning struck.
"Shhhh, it's ok Sloane. I'm here, it'll be ok." Alex whispers in my ear, covering me with the blanket. He pulls out a pillow. He lays us both down. Our legs are entwined and our arms are wrapped around each other. I'm still spooked so I snuggle closer. I'm starting to fall asleep. My body relaxes and my eyelids get heavy.
Alex kisses my forehead and then rests his against mine. Whispering something I don't hear. Then I'm out.
