KIM TAEHYUNG

"We will go our separate ways." I answered back without giving any second thought . My answer was curt and cold as always .

I knew this marriage was just a part of business deal. It was nothing more than that. I had no real emotional attachment to this whole thing .

"You will act like the perfect wife in public and a stranger when we are behind closed doors . Is that clear? Don't ever try to overstep the boundaries set between us"

I watched as she nodded , Her eyes were filled with a mix of uncertainty and resignation. It was clear she wasn't happy about this arrangement, but she didn't have much of a choice in the matter.

That was exactly how I liked it.

No one could defy me or tell me what to do.

I always got what I wanted.

I pushed the contract towards her, the edges of the paper making a soft noise as it moved across the table. "Sign it. If you're ready to be my fake wife."

She looked at the contract for a moment, her eyes skimming over the words and then finally looking up at me . I waited for her to say something, to protest or refuse, but instead she just reached out for the pen and signed it without saying anything.

I grabbed the pen from her hand and signed the contract without a second thought. I didn't see the point in reading it through again - I knew what I was getting myself into, and I was prepared for it.

As I finished signing the contract, I looked up at her . I could see the confusion and curiosity in her eyes. She spoke up, her voice quiet yet firm. "Can I ask you something?"

I raised an eyebrow, curious about what she was going to ask. "Go ahead," I replied.

She took a deep breath and asked, "Why do you need a fake wife? Why do you need to get married at all?"

I leaned back in my seat and considered her question. It was a fair one, but I wasn't sure how much to reveal to her. "In the world of the mafia, there are certain expectations that come with power," I began, my voice cool and commanding. "One of those expectations is that I get married and start a family."

She hummed but her next words took me offguard , "But wouldn't this give them advantage? Now as they know you've someone as your family then it would give them your weakness as well "

I chuckled softly at her words, impressed by her perceptiveness. She was smart, much smarter than I had expected. "You're right," I admitted, my tone still firm.

"Having a wife does give potential enemies a weakness to exploit. But that's where the 'fake' part comes in. My wife is just a figurehead, a prop to give the illusion that I'm settled and content."

She looked at me , her eyes filled with fear and uncertainty . "And what about my protection? You don't love me like the world will see so how can I be assure about my protection?" She asked, her voice shaking.

I sighed and leaned forward, my body tense with irritation but also a hint of something else. I didn't like being questioned or being put in a position where I had to explain myself to someone else, but there was something about her that intrigued me.

"You won't need to worry about your protection," I said, my voice firm and confident. "As long as you play your role as my wife, I'll make sure you remain safe and unharmed."

She studied my face for a moment, her eyes searching for any hint of deception. But there was none. I spoke with unwavering certainty, knowing that I had the power and resources to keep her safe.
