ISHITA CHOUDHARY

I was stunned into silence, processing his words . He was asking me to act as his wife? For a whole year?

My mind raced with a million thoughts, fear and uncertainty taking over. But something deep down, perhaps the desperation to escape my father's control, made me consider it.

"A...A year?" I stuttered, my voice shaking.

He nodded, his gaze unyielding. "Yes, a year."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Was this my only option?  To be the wife of a man I barely knew?

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I had to think clearly, weigh the pros and cons, but it was hard to think straight with him staring at me like that.

"Why... why one year?" I managed to ask, keeping my voice as even as possible.

He shrugged, a casual gesture that didn't quite match the severity of the situation. "Seems like a reasonable amount of time, doesn't it?"

I couldn't help but feel a pang of anger at his nonchalance. He spoke as if he was discussing the weather instead of asking me to live a lie.

"And what... what if I refuse?" I asked, more out of curiosity than any real desire to reject his proposal.

He chuckled, a low and mirthless sound. "Refuse?" He stepped closer to me, his presence looming over me. "You don't have much of a choice, my dear."

I felt a shiver run down my spine at his words, fear and resentment mixed together in a swirling vortex of emotion. He was right, I knew. I had no real choice in this matter. My father would never allow me to refuse.

"So, this is it then..." I whispered, looking down at my trembling hands. "My fate is to be yours for a year."

I felt like I was a pawn in Fate's game, my life's path laid out for me  by forces outside of my control. I had no choice but to accept this role  that had been thrust upon me, even if it meant playing along with his  plans.

"The Fates have woven a cruel tale for me," I muttered, half to myself.

He raised an eyebrow at my words, seeming almost amused by my sudden acceptance. "So, you believe in the power of Fate?" he asked, a touch of mockery in his tone.

I bristled, my pride stung. "I believe in the power of choice," I said firmly. "But it seems in my case, Fate has made the choice for me."

He chuckled darkly, his gaze never leaving mine. "Ah, but isn't choice just an illusion? A comforting illusion we cling to in the face of fate's unyielding hand?"

I felt a shiver run down my spine. His words hit too close to the truth, making me uneasy and defensive. "I... I don't believe that," I said, but even I heard the uncertainty in my voice.

He stood up, his gaze never leaving mine. "You should get some rest ," he said, his voice cool and distant. "Tomorrow, we'll discuss the... details of our arrangement."

I nodded slowly, still reeling from the sudden turn of events. "You... you're leaving?" I asked, almost against my better judgment.

He smirked, a hint of arrogance in his expression. "Yes, I have some... business to attend to," he said, his voice casual. "Don't worry, you're not getting rid of me that easily."

I bristled at his tone, but before I could respond, he was already moving towards the door. "See you tomorrow, "

With that he was gone, leaving me alone in the still silence of the room
I sank down onto the edge of the bed, my mind racing with a thousand questions, a thousand doubts.
