"Yellow."

As soon as that name escaped her lips, Austin's eyes widened in shock. Yellow?! What the heck—Yellow didn't exist in the anime, only in the manga with Red and the others. What was she doing here?

"About you?" Austin blinked as Yellow looked at him curiously, prompted by Samurai's question since he hadn't given his name yet.

"Um... Ash Ketchum."

Austin was forced to stay overnight as the Beedrills wouldn't disperse. Yellow was concerned because she was staying at her uncle's in Pewter City and had intended to return before nightfall. Her hair was now tied back in a ponytail, a change from earlier when they were chased by a horde of Pokémon. Austin remembered something important.

"Hey, Samurai," he called, gaining the trainer's attention as he prepared soup for his guests. "Do you mind if I let Weedle out? I need to check if she's injured."

"Just make sure she doesn't use Poison Sting," Samurai consented. Austin nodded and released Weedle from her Pokéball. Yellow watched curiously, and Pikachu stood ready to defend his trainer.

As the brown caterpillar shook its head, Austin took out the Pokédex to scan her. "Weedle, the Hairy Bug Pokémon. Often found in forests, eating leaves. It has a sharp stinger on its head that injects poison." The Pokédex beeped, drawing Samurai and Yellow's attention. "This Weedle is female, with the ability Poison Point. Currently, she knows Poison Sting and String Shot. Age: two weeks."

"Huh, pretty interesting," Austin remarked as Weedle tilted her head curiously.

"What's that?" Yellow inquired, pointing at the Pokédex.

"I'd like to know as well," added Samurai, recalling other trainers from Pallet who had similar devices but never asking what they were.

"It's a Pokédex," Austin explained, surprised they didn't know. He watched cautiously as Weedle crawled towards him, Pikachu giving her a wary look. Austin felt uneasy as he eyed the stinger on top of her head, but Weedle then darted towards Yellow, gently rubbing against her leg, mindful of her stinger. Just like Caterpie did to Misty, Austin thought with a hint of nostalgia.

"Well, Weedle seems to like you," Austin chuckled as Yellow gently stroked Weedle's head, careful of the stinger. I should set up a training schedule. With a full team, they need to be strong before the Gym Challenge. Plus, Caterpie is behind since he was a Metapod for you at this point. Austin told himself silently. I'll fix that in Pewter City. Yeah, but the fact that Yellow showed up is throwing a wrench in knowing what will happen. Austin shook his head. I swear if the Elite Four turn out to be Eco-Terrorists, I'll be pissed.

The next morning, they walked through the forest, Samurai leading the way since Yellow had gotten lost fleeing from the Beedrill. "So, how mad will your uncle be?" Austin asked as Yellow groaned.

"Very mad," she muttered, looking down. "It wouldn't be so bad if I had managed to catch a Pokémon."

Austin frowned in thought before he remembered Weedle's reaction to Yellow and took out her Pokéball pensively. "Pi?" Pikachu paused, looking up at Austin.

That made Samurai and Yellow stop as they wondered what Austin was doing. "The exit is nearby if you're tired," Samurai said, though he suspected that wasn't the issue.

"Yellow, what do you think about having Weedle as your Pokémon?" Austin asked, surprising her.

"But I thought she was yours."
