The hug

Author's Note: Thee are tons of speculation about season 7, but one that caught my eye was this BTS shot. In this picture we can see Shemar Moore (aka Hondo) and Alex Russell (aka Street) hugging in SWAT's headquarters, both out of uniform. Season 7 official trailer presents Hondo in Mexico solving a hostile situation. We also know, through BTS pictures, that Street doesn't seem to be starring in the first episodes, since Alex appeared in pictures when the third or fourth episodes were rolling, back in the studio in LA. Therefore, one can only wonder why would these two be hugging it out. (Is it sentimental? does it have to do with Chris?)

With that in mind, here is my take...

DIIIIING

The silence that received him was odd. Officer Street shifted his backpack on his shoulder as he walked out of the elevator and unto the desolated hallway.

Where is everybody? he wondered, frowning surprised.

Once he turned the corner, he stopped and took a good look around. Not a soul in sight! He glanced over at the hallway leading to the boss' office, but noticed the closed door and the paper notice still taped over it. He shrugged it off and continued his way to the locker room to leave his belongings and change into his gear.

SLAM

He placed his deodorant back into the small shelf in front of him and noticed the white envelop at the far end. Sigh. He was thankful no one had to come in and deliver it. After such a close call, he couldn't wait for shift to be over and head back home. He was already planning a surprise dinner for his girl and had chosen a couple of movies to watch and snuggle together in bed. He was glad he was able to look forward to it!

He took another deep breath and headed out. Since he still couldn't find anyone from his squad, the boss was still out and the academy was paused for the week with recruits attending training in another facility, he had no other choice than to head to the office space and grab his laptop to check his weekly chores. They usually involved conditioning, shooting drills, check ups, organization or cleaning tasks and paperwork, with an occasional training or academic work. Today was different.

After grabbing a bottle of water and a laptop, he sat down and searched for the list. He was shocked to find out his superiors hadn't uploaded it. Usually Hondo sends the list early on Monday morning, so with the day already gone by, Street expected the list to be up and ready by now.

"That's strange. Hondo's last login was 48 hours ago." he said to himself, frowning hard.

If there was one characteristic that set his boss apart from every other leader in LAPD was his meticulous paperwork. Everyone in 20 squad thought it was probably something he learned from his military days that he enforces with determination in his current job. For his squad, that was both a blessing and a curse.

"Man! That is strange!" Street said again, letting out a long deep breath.

He heard footsteps, and turned around. To his surprise, Cabrera was approaching the office, coming up from the stairs at the rear.

SLAM

She closed the door and greeted him softly, while going for a laptop. "Hey Street!"

"Hey! Nothing posted by the boss yet. Strange as it may seem."

Cabrera stopped cold, frowning hard on him. "Strange?"

It took Street by surprise, so he was only able to mumble "Yeah"

"You clearly have no idea what he went through south of border, right?" Cabrera asked, sitting down across from him.

Now Street was the one that frowned, lost in that response. "What I miss?"
