Last Summer

Chapter 1:

I look out over the patio at the sunset.

 "Seems like just yesterday we were five year old's running round in the yard together." I say.

"Yeah. We had some good times back then." Hayes says back.

I turn my head to look back at Hayes he smiles at me. The same smile I've known for years.

"What?!" He says finally breaking the silence.

"Umm Nothing. Come on." I Say back with a giggle.

I stand up to face him. I take his hand and pull him up.

"Where are we going?" He ask.

"You'll see."

 We walk towards the golf cart parked in the back yard. I hop in the driver seat. He follows. When driving I took a quick glance over at him.

"What?!" I say then he gives me the cheesiest smile and says:

"Oh nothing." I thought he was mocking me,So I just laugh.

We drive recklessly down the street to his house. I walk in the door first. Not even knocking. This was like my second home. What can I say I basically grew up here?

Hayes shouts:

"We're home!"

Then Skylynn runs up with excitement.

"Lookie Lookie!!" She hold up two plastic horses.

"Member you promised last summer that you would play horsies with me?"

*She gives me the boo-boo lip*

"Aww. Oh yea." I say back to her. 

"Let her say hi to mom and Nash first sky." Hayes said.

I feel like the life and excitement in her face just died.

"Otay." She says in a baby voice.

I follow Hayes into the kitchen. Where Elizabeth is sipping coffee and Nash is eating lucky charms.

Nash runs over to me and yells:

"Addi!!"

He picks me up and spins me around.

When he puts me down, I go hug Elizabeth and turn around to Skylynn behind me with her horses again.

"Well I'm gonna play horses with sky now." I say with a chuckle.

We run in her room. We play horses. Finally Hayes walks in, with wet hair and a towel around his waist. Fresh out the shower.

"Can I have my best friend back?" He says as he smiles.

"I Guess." Says skylynn with disappointment.

I look back at Skylynn and say:

"I promise this won't be the last time we play."

"Pinky promise?" She asks as she holds out her pinky.

 "Yes." I reply while attaching my pinky to hers.

"Oh and mom says that you need to lay down sky cause it's past your bed time." Hayes tells her.

"NO!" She says with sass, And continues playing with her horses.

"Hey will you please lay down for me?" I say putting on a big ol smile and my fingers on my cheeks as dimples.

She soon runs on her bed and falls asleep. Hayes and I leave the room.

"You know what?"

"What?" He says as we walk up stairs to his room.

"I bet I can beat you in black opts." I say with too much confidence.

"Nah he says." All in my face.

"I'll take that as a challenge. Hey but can I have a t shirt and sweatpants to sleep in?" I ask him.

"Sure."

He throws them at me and I walk into the Bath room and text my mom to tell her I'm staying the night, as I put on my pajamas. Walk back into Hayes room and he's already dressed, then we settle for a couple rounds of black opts. Realizing that he was good at video games and I wasn't.

"Alright I give up." I say with a smile.

 "Wanna watch some TV?" I suggest.

"Netflix?" He says with a smirk.

"Yeah." I say back.

 Then I get up and turn off the lights. We watch orange is the new black in silence. Then out of nowhere the power shuts off and I here thunder, I jump out the bed. Even though I'm a 15 year old I have a phobia of thunder. I start dialing my mom's number. Then Hayes stops me and takes my phone out of my hands. Looks me in the eyes and says:

"It's going to be ok."

I start crying as the thunder continues.

"Hey come here." He says trying to comfort me.

We sit on the foot of his bed, me crying wrapped up in his arms. I felt safer than ever. So I stop crying. We soon lay down and he falls asleep with me in his arms. I look at him sleeping. And it was in that moment that I knew that I wanted to be more than friends with Hayes Grier.

Diary, Wow! I love being back in North Carolina, with Hayes and the 2nd family. Gosh Skylynn is all grown up, and everyone has changed.

So... being back has reminded me that I have feelings for Hayes. Last night is when it hit hard.

I have bad fear of storm's. And we were at his house. I wanted to leave so bad because the storm but it was 2am, but at that point I didn't care.

Hayes helped me, he made me feel safe that's when he rapped me in his arms and we curled up in bed. Geese it was so perfect. Im just afraid to tell him because I just think of negative feedback; Rejection, Loosing him as a friend, EVERYTHING! Im gonna try to tell him when it feels right.

Though what If he feel the same way? I can't keep these feelings locked in side forever can I? He's my best friend. He's the only one I come to for advice. I have no clue what to do, im stuck.
