I thoughtfully stood at the railing. The wind blew the black hair out of my face. My thoughts revolved around the discovery I had made this morning. It was still a mystery to me how they managed to get into my cabin without drawing attention to themselves.
From the outside, nothing had hinted at the alien intrusion. I had come from breakfast, thinking in my mind how best to establish contact with Ronald, since I had not seen him since the brief moment when the Campania had left.
It wasn't until I closed the cabin door behind me and looked into the small room that I noticed that it wasn't what it was when I left. The smell of a strange perfume was one thing, the letter on the small table was another.
There wasn't much I could learn from him. Just a deck and room number, as well as cordial greetings from a certain Aurora.
Among them was the Phoenix seal, which corresponded to what was affixed as a pin on the man's cape.
I sighed. Why did I get involved in this again?
Oh, because of a red-haired Shinigami I still hadn't been able to locate on the ship.
"Excuse me!"
At the sound of the familiar voice, I turned my head to the side where I recognized Ronald Knox, who had apparently run into a group of people. I saw that they seemed to be chasing after him, but because they were moving away, I couldn't hear what exactly they were saying.
When they were gone, I saw Ronald shake his head nervously and then move again. It's now or never.
As fast as I could, without attracting any attention to myself, I followed Ronald.
Keeping enough distance, I followed him all over the deck, stopped at a safe distance when he did, and set me back in motion when he ran. He seemed to be looking for something, something or someone.
Was he looking for Grell, too? What was he looking for? Did he know I was here? Didn't he know? How would he react if he noticed me?My thoughts flipped and probably they were the reason why, when I bent around the next corner, I ran unchecked into the person who was approaching me. A surprised sound escaped my lips and I stumbled backwards, but was kept from falling by a hand wrapped around my wrist.
With help, I stood up again and followed the gloved hand upwards until I could see into the face of its owner. But at the sight that presented itself, my heart slipped in my pants. That couldn't have been true!
"My apologies, my lady. It wasn't my intention!" the black-haired demon apologized as he let go of me and bowed slightly to me. Next to him stood a boy with blue hair and an eye patch over his right eye. So the demon stood before me at his service.
"I must apologize, sir. I didn't pay attention to where I was going!"I politely contradicted and made a slight nod.
"Just be careful. Sebastian, we have to keep going!" the boy whimpered and without saying another word he ran past me. However, the demon, Sebastian, stopped and looked at me. There was something examining, almost suspicious in his gaze. Did he know? Did he know I was a Shinigami? My hand, holding the knob of my cane, contracted slightly.
"I beg your pardon for your behaviour, my young master, lady..?"
I blinked lightly. Panic spread in me. I felt he wanted to test me.
"Mabelle. And don't apologize. "
The demon dressed as a butler nodded and smiled before bowing again."Goodbye, Lady Mabelle. " With these words he followed his young master.
When he was bent around the corner, I breathed a sigh of relief. Got lucky again.
But why was this demon in Campania? Did he and his master have anything to do with this mass extinction? Did they know anything about this phoenix and this aurora?
I didn't like it at all. The more I learned, the less comfortable I felt here. Something was wrong. A feeling, an evil premonition, flooded me and lay on my shoulders like a heavy cloak. But at the same time, curiosity also increased. I wanted to know what would ultimately trigger this mass extinction tomorrow night.
Looking for Ronald, I looked around. But I had lost it because of my encounter with the demon. Damn it! Damn you, demon!
In a bad mood, I went on, at a slower pace than before, thinking again about tomorrow's events, as well as the stranger's letter. I still didn't know who it came from or who this Aurora was. Was she an acquaintance of the man? But then she would surely have noticed long ago that he was not here and that I had moved into his cabin. The more I thought about it all, the less sense it made. It was as if I had two pieces of the puzzle that came from two different puzzles and I was expected to somehow put them together. Sighing, I bent back into the hallway leading back to my cabin when suddenly a door opened right next to me, someone grabbed me by the wrist and I was dragged into the next cabin. As soon as I was inside in complete darkness, I stepped on the foot of my second man, but as a result only a gloved hand rested on my mouth. Blind anger ran through me. Whoever it was, what did he dare to do?I raised my walking stick and wanted to mold it back into my sense to teach this poor soul a lesson when suddenly a familiar voice began to speak.
"You're pretty out of shape, ma'am!"
