(I'm going where?)
Saiki was woken up abruptly that Sunday morning to the sound of his mother shrieking in excitement. "Come downstairs, Kusuo! You'll never believe what we got in the mail!"
Saiki, half asleep and too tired to try and decipher his mother's frenzied thoughts, walked downstairs. (Why do I have a feeling this isn't going to go well for me...)
Before he had even stepped foot into the kitchen where his mother was, Kurumi shoved a sheet of paper into his face. "It's your acceptance letter, Kuu-chan! I can't believe you're going to go the same school that your brother went to!"
(I'm going where?) Saiki asked incredulously. (I never submitted an application for any school. As much as I dislike my current school, transferring to a whole new one would only be more of an inconvenience.) He looked with disbelief at the letter in his hands. Sure enough, it read, 'Congratulations Kusuo Saiki! You have been accepted into Ouran Elite Private Academy. You have been enrolled and may start at your earliest convenience.'
(This can't be right. Where did we even get the money to pay for a school as prestigious as this?) Saiki shuffled through the other papers in the envelope. To his dismay, the last page had the answer he was looking for. The tuition amount (that's way too many zeros) had next to it a signature: 'paid in full by Kusuke Saiki.'
"Oh Kuu, this also arrived with the letter! I haven't opened it though, tell me what's inside! Open it, open it!" Kurumi said gleefully, holding a large box in her hands.
Sighing, Saiki took the box, already knowing what was inside of it. He pulled out the cornflower blue suit jacket and black slacks, showing them to his mother. Kurumi gasped in awe and took the nice clothing into her hands. "Oh Kuu-chan, you'll look so handsome in these clothes! I'll need to make sure that I call your brother and tell him thank-you for being so kind as to fully fund your education and uniform expenses. In fact, I'll do it right now. You go try on your new uniform, and come show it to me!" She handed the uniform back to Saiki and rushed into the other room to call her eldest son.
Begrudgingly, Saiki made his way up the stairs to his bedroom to try the uniform on. Placing the box on his bed, he sat down at his desk and began looking through all the contents of the Ouran Academy envelope. Thumbing through all the official-looking documents, he came across a sheet of paper with his brother's handwriting on it. (Hopefully this will explain why the hell my brother is taking an interest in my education all of a sudden. What's stopping me from just ignoring this transfer entirely?)
'Hey little brother,' the letter read. 'I figure you're wondering why I've enrolled you in my alma mater. You could say this is a favor. For your whole life, you've worked to not stand out, to get mediocre grades and leave unremarkable impressions on people. Well, recently some of my academic peers have been talking about their above-average siblings, and when asked about you, I am forced to speak on your mediocrity. In short, I need you to start being more impressive so I don't have to be embarrassed by you around my associates. Ouran has recently started up a baking program with the world's highest quality ingredients, facilities, and instructors. So long as you stay at the top of your classes, I will pay to keep you enrolled in this baking program. Who knows, you may even make friends there.
Don't disappoint me,
Kusuke'For once in his life, Saiki didn't know what to do. He had no obligation to complete this favor for his brother. So what if Kusuke was embarrassed that he didn't do as well as other kids his age? Kusuke knew that Saiki was smarter than all of his colleagues siblings, this was just a matter of pride for him. (I would like to enroll in that baking program though, and it would be great to get away from all the nuisances at PK Academy...)
...
Kurumi had just hung up the phone after chatting with Kusuke when Saiki came down the stairs. "Oh, you look so handsome, Kuu-chan!" She sweetly smiled and said. "I just got off the phone with Kusuke, and he told me that you can start at your new school tomorrow! I'm so excited for you, Kuu! You're going to make lots of new friends and have a great time, I know it. Just for this special occasion, I'm going to go out and get the fancy coffee jelly that you like. I'll be back in 30 minutes. Love you, Kuu-chan!" She beamed as she skipped out the front door.
(This might not actually be so bad.) Saiki thought to himself as he changed out of his Ouran uniform and sat down on the sofa in the sitting room. (Even though Kusuke wants me to stand out academically, I'm sure I'll find some way to blend into the background still. And I'll get to take part in the baking course, not to mention I'll never have to see any of those PK nuisances ever again. It seems as though my disastrous life is over.)
