After all the club "activities" were finished, the guests trickled out of the music room, no doubt to go on and be creepy elsewhere. The hosts reconvened in the center sitting area to conduct their after-club meeting. Saiki stayed in his chair in the corner, but pricked up his ears and listened to them, staring at his fork as he pretended to be focused on moving cake crumbs into a little pile on his plate.

"Good work today, everyone. It seems our earnings have increased by 15% this month," Kyoya said approvingly, scribbling something down in his notebook. He turned to Haruhi and added, "And Haruhi seems to be one of the leading causes of it. Nice work. I'll see to it that an appropriate amount of your debt is removed."

Haruhi beamed and gave a thumbs up. "Thanks, Kyoya senpai! Just doing my best." She turned around and gave an equally cheesy grin and thumbs up to Saiki in the corner, who returned the gesture with an amused smile.

(She's not so bad,) Saiki thought as she turned her attention back to the other host club members. (Maybe I've finally found someone tolerable to spend my time at Ouran with.)

Suddenly, Saiki felt cold daggers in his side. He looked over to see Suoh giving him a stink-eye as he glanced between Saiki and Haruhi. "How dare this commoner share glances with MY Haruhi!" He fumed. "He shouldn't even be allowed to look at her! That hoodlum better not corrupt my sweet daughter!!"

Saiki stared incredulously as Suoh continued to mean mug him. (Good grief. I'd better tread lightly around this one, or else there'll be another...) He shuddered. (Teruhashi situation..) Saiki was beginning to make connections between the Ouran and PK students, and he could already tell that Haruhi was somewhat the "Teruhashi" of the group—all the boys adored her, especially one: Suoh, the "Makoto—" he was fully, dangerously obsessed with Haruhi, and the weird "father-daughter" bit he was always pulling only likened him to that blue-haired freak even more.

...

All the host club activities were finally done. Everything was tidied up and put away, and all the other hosts had done home. It was just Saiki and Kyoya left in the club room. (Well,) said Saiki as he finally got up from his chair and crossed the room to where he had set his bag down, (Thanks for showing me around today. It's been... something.) He picked up his bag and turned to leave the music room.

"Saiki, wait up," Kyoya said as he went to pick up his bag as well, gracefully putting it over his head and settling it on his shoulders. He walked over to where Saiki was standing and smiled, "After all I've put you through today, I owe you a token of my appreciation for sticking it out. How about we go out for a snack before heading home? I should hope your teachers wouldn't assign you too much work on the first day of classes, so I'm assuming you have an hour to spare?"

(It's a nice sentiment, but I really just want to go home and take a nap. How bothersome.) Saiki put on what he thought to be his humblest and most charmingly sheepish smile and said, (Sorry, but I seem to have forgotten my wallet at home, so I have no way of paying. Another time, maybe.) He placed his hand on the door handle and was about to turn it before Kyoya stopped him with a light hand on his forearm.
