CHAPTER 7
(Daniel's Pov)
I'm just sitting there with my family when I here a knock on the door. As soon as I open it, there she is, Erica, looking like she just came out of a nightmare. Her arms were scratched, her legs were bloody, her hair was a mess, her face was cut, and she looked red. I examined her carefully, trying hard to keep my facial expressions straight. It's just so hard looking at her in this state. I grab her in as a tight of a hug as could in a way that wouldn't hurt her.
"Erica, what happened to you," because she didn't answer, I could tell what happened. Her mother, said that little voice in my mind, informing me on what I already knew. My mother came to her aid, but I moved her back so that I would be the only one to help Erica."Mom, Dad, Lilah, will you please go somewhere else?" They did as I said, vanishing into their own rooms.
"Erica, go wait on the couch while I go get the first aid kit." She nodded and headed toward the couch stumbling over her feet.
Her mother. Her mother. Why would she do this much damage to such a fragile little thing? I'll kill her. Even if this means going to jail. Erica could visit me. You know, if she loved me. Like I love her. Her mom will never hurt her again. I'll ask her when her mom leaves again, ask her to move in, since Mom and Dad don't care, take her to get her stuff and BOOM! She's safe. I just have to convice her things will be okay here. She has to believe me if she wants to get away from her mom.
"I do believe you. She leaves in an hour. She'll be gone for another three days." Wow, she just scared me. I was thinking aloud again.
"How long have you been there? What did you here?"
"Long enough. Everything."
"Oh. So do you want to.."
"Move in? Yes. Anything to protect from my mother.
"Great. This has been 5 minutes so another 55 to go and we'll leave."
"Perfect. I'll lead the way since, obviously, you don't know the way."
Then I grin, which turns into a smile, which turns into a chuckle. This girl can make so happpy at times even if I've only known her for a day. Funny how people you've barely met can make your day. I'm so glad I got to meet this girl. When she comes to me, obviously hurt, it makes me feel two things. Happy because I get to help her, sad because she shouldn't have to go through so many horrible things because her physco mother her because of her dad's death.
When I walked up to her yesturday I did it because she stood out. The way she didn't look anybody in the eye when she spoke to them, stared at the ground, always looked at her feet, ok I sound like a complete creep, but I've seen her doing all of these things in school. When I ran to her and she didn't look at me and had the expression like she didn't want to be alive, I knew she had been hurt. It's wierd because it's only been a day and we've already been through so much together. It makes me happy. I know about her, yet, I haven't told her anything about me. What's there to tell, anyway? Yeah, nothing. If you count being arrested twice in the last year, then that's something. It was pointless. So, I broke in a house twice. So what? That's not a big deal.
Just then she comes behind me and tells me that her mom left early. When I asked her how she knew that she said she went home to see if she was still there.
Dang. She's brave. I could've never done that. Shut up, man. You sound like a wimp.
I kissed her cheek, erm, tried.
"Look, Daniel. I know we just had a... thing earlier, but not again. Sorry, I just don't like you in that way.."
That was it. Goodbye love, hello heartbreak.
