Coriolanus Snow was the winning mentor of the 10th annual Hunger Games. His tribute was Lucy Gray Baird, a poor singer from District 12. The odds were not in Lucy Gray's favor until she opened her mouth and strummed her guitar. Once Lucy Gray sang, Coriolanus knew there was hope for him actually winning the Games and the Plinth Prize.
Everything was going fine for Coriolanus until his best friend Sejanus Plinth confessed that him and Lucy Gray had become very fond of each other. To fond for him to lose her. While this annoyed Coriolanus, he found a sense of understanding. This was because he had lost someone he loved dearly when he was younger. He couldn't wish that pain upon his closest companion.
Coriolanus did what he had to do to save Lucy Gray and win the Plinth Prize. Not excluding cheating. When Lucy Gray had won her games it felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. he would be free from his shackles and be able to start a new life. That was until the game makers became aware of his cheating and sent him to rot as a peacekeeper in District 12.
Sejanus being the loyal friend he is, also got himself transferred to District 12 to be a peacekeeper. While he claims this was dedication to Coriolanus for saving his lovers life, it's very clear he also had intentions to see Lucy Gray while he was there.
Just when Coriolanus was settling into his new life in district 12, he came along a girl.
Every weekend the peacekeepers would go see the concerts that the Covey Band put on. This was good for Sejanus because his girlfriend was the lead singer. Coriolanus had noticed another girl on stage though. The girl who would play piano if there were slower songs. The girl who was always singing backup for Lucy Gray. The girl who played guitar is Lucy Gray needed to move and dance. The girl who's face lit up everytime she got to stand on that stage. Coriolanus knew that she was something he needed. A ray of sunshine in his dark, depressing life. He was going to find a way to make her love him, no matter what it took.
