When the Argo 2 "landed" hovering above the the treetops of camp Jupiter. I could see the buildings smoldering and a bunch of small purple figures lying scattered on the ground. Annabeth immediately recognized one figure distinctly, "Piper!!" She yelled taking a rope from Leo and swinging down. I quickly followed along with Nico , Leo, and Will. Festus and calypso kept it in the air working tirelessly to keep the ship from falling and crushing a part of camp Jupiter.
The destruction of the camp was too much for me to even describe all at once. But i will try my very best. The cabins for each god were a smoldering ruin. Especially the Apollo and Artemis cabins. They were completely demolished, no foundation was left standing. Hades cabin was the least destroyed, (Maybe because whoever the heck did this is worried they'll end up on his underwear as their eternal punishment, for which i can't blame them.)
"Percy!!" frank yelled, limping forward, half of his body a gorilla the other half completely Frank. "Whoa! What happened to you dude!?!" leo cried out catching him before he fell on the ground. "Arrows tipped in a reverse poison." frank tried to explain but i was completly clueless. "Come again?" i asked tilting my head to the side in bewilderment. "Poison tipped arrows that caused a reverse of my abilities." Frank explained again. "Dude just say powers. Its WAYYY cooler." leo commented but he quickly shut his mouth after one look from hazel. Will dug around in his messenger bag for a remedy and quickly along with some Ambrosia and Nectar Frank was slowly returned to be fully frank. Hazel rushed to his side kissing his cheek in spite of herself. And i couldn't help but laugh, some things never change. "Where are all your kids?" Annabeth quickly asked, eager to make sure our God children were alright. "Hiding with some of the camp councilors." Hazel informed them "they'll be arriving any moment."
I should say that the camp counselors were just teenagers who had proven themselves in roman parkour, or capture the flag i mean. "What took you so long!" Piper cried rushing to Leo and crushing him in a hug, "Sorry pipes, i tried to get the old rust bucket here faster. Its just so outdated and didn't go as fast as it used too." leo looked sad but he quickly regained his smirk and spark. "Alright who needs their royal butt kicked first!" he cheered but a choking sob filled the back of his throat. "I miss him too." piper murmured, laying a hand on his shoulder.
The damage was extensive and the injuries great but the camp spirit seemed to remain high as Will ran around tending to whatever wounded he could or Nico saying final rites for those about to pass on. Annabeth squeezed my hand in shock as a young man pronounced dead was wheeled by on a stretcher wheel barrow thing. He looked exactly like- jason-. "Jason!?!" Leo cried rushing to the boys side but it wasn't jason. We all had hoped that like myself and Leo Jason would somehow escape the cruel and unfair death he suffered.
"Its not - hes not-" Piper whispered, choking down a sob. "Thats a son of Apollo, or helios technically the personalities are switched again." Reyna explained. "So who attacked!? And why?" Annabeth, always the analytical one asked. "Selene's forces. The moon goddess before Artemis.. Oh and. Percy." Reyna held out a slip of paper with my name printed boldly on it. "This was left for you on one of the arrow shafts.
Everyone crowed around me as i read "Percy jackson! I assume you have received this and when you do, i would suggest trying to locate your children, they are most likely LONG gone by now. This is only the beginning. Tell your friends to prepare themselves, my wrath will be MOST unpleasant towards anyone who stand in my way."
As soon as i read the last word, it was as if the actual sky had fallen down, a crushing darkness filtered over all of us and all i heard were screams.
Slowly the burden was lifted once again and i was able to lift my head and look around. "What in the name of hades was THAT!!!" Leo yelled from somewhere on my left. It was still nearly pitch black and i couldn't see even my middle finger that I had stretched towards the sky.
"Who would be the only one to do this!?" Reyna called from somewhere in the front of me. "The only person who i can think of would be Atlas... but wasn't his burden given to him a long time ago?" Annabeth asked me, and like always i couldn't think of anything to say. "We have to make sure our kids are okay. This is just way to weird to be normal!!" Leo said. Suddenly a small light began walking towards us. Will Solace, son of Apollo was literally glowing. Like a glowstick glowing. He bent down and it felt as if an Angel had touched me, helping me to my feet and illuminating the terrified faces of everyone else. FRank and Hazel held their children close and the younger campers whimpered with Fear but Nico held out his arms and they all flocked to him. He didn't even seem too bothered. Using Will as a light source we scouraged around and found whatever lanterns and other light sources until we had a largish circle of light that everyone now could stand in the middle of."Looks like we're about to have a seance." Reyna remarks and hazel gasps in disgust covering her son's ears. "What?!" Reyna shrugged " its true." "If i can get to the ship i can turn on those spotlights i stole from times square." Leo suggested pushing Will Solace forward as a human glowstick. " Lead the way your shinyness." he said much to Will's dismay. "Hurry !" i called after them. "Hurry is my Middle name!!" Leo called back.
"Oh Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow, please accept my offering." I whisper to the small drachma that we threw into the light. "Show me camp half blood." Annabeth chimes in, and Everyone gathered around to watch. The dark scene was hard to make out but it looked as if everything was normal. For the most part. Capture the flag armor lay strewn everywhere, all over the paths even on the roofs of the cabins. No one was around, and that gave me a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. "Selene wouldn't- recruit Atlas would she?" i ask uneasily. No one answers and that makes my worry even worse.
"Grover!?" Annabeth yells into the message. A small satyr stumbles in front of the message. "Greenwood!" (grover's son) she exclaims with slight joy. "Where is everyone else? What happened?"
"Don't know- everyone's gone, so dark, so tired." he bleats and for a second i am reminded of a time long ago , of a young grover saying something similar. "Did someone come and put you to sleep Greenwood?" Hazel inquires softly and its as if her soft nymphlike voice brings him out of his sleepy trance for he blinks and opens his eyes wide in a fear I've never seen before. "Yes! Yes! That's what happened. Jason- Bianca- Edmund- All gone all gone." he bleats sadly. "Only a few barely alive campers and satyrs and nymphs left. No head campers. Atlas- atlas got them all." he whispered the last part as if it had just occurred to him. "How long ago was this!?" I ask my bloodstream to be filled with adrenaline. "Two days? Two hours? Its hard to tell.." he mumbled before stumbling away and I assumed falling asleep again. The iris message closed and Everyone looked to me for answers. Annabeth hugged me tightly, sobbing into my shoulder. "If Atlas escaped that means someone is holding the sky for him, percy, - Jason-" she can't finish her sentence and i understand what she means. "He's strong, all of them are. "I promised.
"Is anyone , a messenger, a henchman, of Selene or Helios's waiting?" Nico asked, holding his hands protectively over the children's heads. "Yes. in the senate building." Reyna confirms. "Lets go show them who the hell they just messed with." Annabeth mutters, her dagger dangerously pointed a little too close to my chest for comfort. "Uh- Annabeth? Dagger." i remind her and sheepishly she lowered it away from me. A whirring noise is heard from Above our heads and we all looked up to see the Argo 2.0 flying above us, its lights on and blaring into the inky darkness. "Hop aboard folks!! We've got some godly asses to kick!!!" Calypso, Leo's wife cheers from where she is standing on top deck. "Gods! I love that woman!" i could hear Leo say from somewhere at the helm. "Guys, we have a messenger from Selene and Helios, if we can find out the demands we can get our kids sooner."
"Wait- our kids? What happened to our kids?!?!" Calypso cried alarmed. "I'll explain on the way." Annabeth calls. " Will, Nico! Your on babysitting duty, the rest of you! On the argo 2.0!"
I point Riptide up and we all begin to climb the long rope ladder that Leo had thrown down like Spider monkeys. "Lets go take some names, kick ass, eat -"
"TACOS!" Frank cheers from where he is is climbing up the rope ladder. "Yes frank, tacos. But first, our kids." i Said, sheathing my sword and kissing Annabeth's cheek. "Who wants to do the honors of asking the first question to the messenger?" I question and not much to my surprise, every hand shoots up.
