When news of the Piltover-Zaun war reached Demacia, Lux didn't hesitate to enlist as a foreign ally. She'd studied the turmoil plaguing the twin nations in great depth, fascinated by how they were founded so close together but differed so far in values. Having been raised in a land which tended toward backward thinking, Lux couldn't help admiring Zaun's free ways and rebellious spirit.

Although it had fought its share of wars with Noxus, Demacia had yet to open its ranks to women like Lux. This was an issue Lux's aunt had overcome, masquerading as a man to climb the ranks and fight in the previous Demacian-Noxan war. Her aunt's burning blood ran in Lux's veins, but she wasn't content to hide her identity. If she was going to fight, she would fight as her whole, unfiltered self.

Zaun's military was undiscriminating, welcoming every willing soul to battle against their looming oppressor. Lux would not be turned away.

Although Lux's parents protested her leaving, desperate to keep their only daughter safe, she'd found support in her older brother. Garen had realized years ago that Lux's fighting spirit wouldn't wane with age as her mother had hoped. If anything, Lux's tenacity had increased year by year as her warrior's heart grew increasingly restless.

Thus, after a few weeks of background investigation to reassure her new allies that she was not a Piltovan spy, Lux's training with the Zaunite Air Force began.

"You're fresh out of training, right?"

It was cool in the Wing Commander's tent. Beige walls quivered under the constant breeze which whistled through Zaun's ravines.

Tugging her thick, standard-issue bomber jacket tighter around her lean-muscled body, Lux met Wing Commander Sevika's cool, gray eyes with a determined grin. "Freshly trained and ready to fly, Commander."

Commander Sevika pulled a cigarette from her pocket and lit it in a movement too swift for Lux to clock. As the leader raised the burning cig to her lips, dogtags clinked around her neck.

Despite her carefully composed expression, Lux could tell that her superior was troubled. Maybe it was the crease between her brows, or the way she sucked in smoke like a parched man chugging water.
