"Hey guys!" Maud came running up. "Watcha doin?" She said cheerfully as ever. Ohana pulled her hood over her eyes and ducked her head down. I didn't blame her.
"Maud! Where were you this morning?" I asked and and looked at Emmery for support. He was to busy drooling over Maud.... Pfft, boys.
"Oh... That." She glanced at the floor, " well I woke up early in the morning, early bird catches the worm, and noticed that the skirt they gave us girls was awfully plaid and didn't really work. So I walked up to the office and demanded that they changed the uniform... For girls with a sense of style!" She smiled and the If course Emmery did too.
"Great story Maud! So independent." Emmery said. Maud plastered on a smile and hid a cringe as she couldn't stand being in the same room with Emmery. She faked laughed, "And you are?"
"Emmeria Couser, the third. According to ancestry.com I'm related to Merlin." Emmery flowed his cape and I smiled, I rolled my eyes. What a dork. My best friend dork. I quickly tried to change the subject.
"So... What classes do you guys have for first hour?" I looked down at my schedule.
" For- en-sic science. Oh! Forensic science!" Maud figured out.
"Me too, my lady," Emmery tried again but Maud ignored him.
"P.E" Ohana looked up.
" Same here, girly!" I said and softly smiled to her. She smiled back.
Soon we were dismissed to our first class. Ohana and I nervously walked to the gym. First floor at the end of the hall. On the way Ohana asked a lot of questions.
"Will the teacher be mean or nice?"
"Dunno."
"Do we have gym lockers or a locker room?"
"Dunno."
"What's a team run?"
I stopped in my tracks. Team run. What the heck was it?!? I took a deep breath and said, "Dunno."
We got to the gym and I realized we were some of the last kids to get there. Oh joy. I went with Ohana and sat on the first row of bleachers like everyone else was doing. After a few minutes of twiddling our thumbs a very masculine woman came out. She was wearing an old gray hoodie with a whistle around her neck. She looked at all of us like we were dinner. Than she smirked.
"Children. I am your P.E teacher. Feel free to call me Mizz Owens, coach, or coach Owens. This class is not gonna be easy and if you don't think you can do it... Get out!" She pointed at the door and spat. Gross. No one moved. Ohana's lip started quivering and her eyes got watery.
Crap.
The beast, as I liked to call her, noticed right away. She was probably thinkin something like,
Ahh. Fresh meat! (Witch cackle)
She speed walked over to Ohana and with her smelly breath whispered, "Are you a cry baby? Am I gonna have to call your mom and tell her you were crying in P.E!? Do you want to be a disappointment to your mother!?!" Ohana shook her head and began full on crying.
What a jerk; yelling at a 6 year old!
"Good! Now run a lap!" Beast yelled again and Ohana obeyed orders. I got up and did it too. Soon the whole class joined in and started chanting, "O-ha-na!" Over and over again as we let her take the lead in our tenth lap. It felt good to stand up to beast.

After class, Maud and Emmery met us outside under the tree. We had fifteen minutes of free time in between classes. Outside had beautiful and soft green grass that we all sat in.
"So... How was P.E?" Maud asked. Ohana looked up at me and I looked down at her where we smiled to each other.
"You'll hate the teacher," I said and the bell rang.
