This is the part where I usually introduce some lazy protagonist doing something mundane and totally normal. Then, something fantastical happens and said protagonist is suddenly thrust into some dangerous adventure.
This isn't that kind of story.
The story you're about to read is about nothing in particular. No one is going to save the day. No one is going on some life changing journey that will adhere to the hero's journey. Nope. This all started late one night while an author was suffering a horrible crisis. The crisis in question was about whether or not he was good at writing. It was an incredible source of anxiety, one that was making him lose his hair and gain weight. So the author decided to do something about it.
The Author decided to get advice from his wise friend, Mr.Bullfrog, who lived on the top of Frosty Mountain. Frosty Mountain was a 20 minute drive away from where The Author lived. Unfortunately, The Author didn't have a car, so he would have to walk all the way there.
It would be a 2 hour walk. Minimum.
The Author got dressed and thought about what he would bring with him on his walk. An umbrella would be very important, as some clouds above warned of approaching rain. A water bottle would be useful as well. The Author didn't like the taste of rain water, he much preferred tap. A towel would come in handy too. If any muggers dared to approach The Author, would use a wet towel to whip them away. A cellphone and some headphones would be useful as well. Scaring off muggers was much more fun while listening to music.
The Author gathered his things and left his apartment. Mr. Blue, a human sized cat that lived in a cardboard box on the other side of the street, saw The Author leaving and called out to him.
"Hey, Mr. Author!"
"What is it Mr. Blue?" The Author asked with an annoyed sigh.
"Shouldn't you be working on that novel you've been telling me about? It's been five years... shouldn't it be done by now?"
"It's done. I've given you three copies already."
"Oh?"
Mr. Blue looked down and saw that he was sitting in shredded paper. There were shreds of yesterday's news, a fashion magazine, and of course, The Author's novel.
"Oh."
"Yeah. Now if you excuse me, I'm off to Mr.Bullfrog's."
"Ok. When's your second novel coming out?"
The Author ignored Mr. Blue's question.
