"I won't do this. You cannot ask me to do this." Ominis insisted, uncertainty and pain lingering in his voice and causing it to tremble.
His ethereal, iced-over eyes bore into mine...and I know he can't see me, not truly...but with the way his face was twisted in unspoken agony...it almost felt as if he was looking through every aspect of my soul...desperately trying to find any leverage to convince me to stand down.
I wanted to...Merlin, I wanted to...but seeing as we were now trapped...I didn't see much of a choice.
"You're being utterly ridiculous, Ominis." Sebastian spat from behind us. "As if dying here in this stoney prison like your aunt is a better alternative to casting a damned spell."
"Sebastian, please." Ominis let out a shaky breath. "You know how I feel about the curse...you know what I had to do, what I was forced to do. You're asking me to break every vow I've ever made to myself....you're asking me to torture one of you...the two people I love most in this world. I won't do it. I would sooner die than ever cast that godforsaken curse again."
"Sebastian..." I finally spoke up, gulping audibly as I struggled to find the words. "We can't ask this of him...it's not right. There has to be another way out of here...let's just look around for-"
"Come now, Y/N. Be reasonable." Sebastian urged, his chocolate irises set ablaze with determination. "You see that door....you see the inscription on the floor...you've read Noctua's journals...you know as well as I do that casting the curse is our only chance of survival. And if he refuses to man up and do it, then one of us will have to."
"I don't know the curse, Seb...nor do I care to learn it." I protested, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I do." Sebastian lowered his voice slightly, his lips forming a tight line. "I can teach you....or....I can cast it on you."
Ominis lunged forward, reaching an arm out to find me, and then using it to swiftly shove me behind him, positioning himself between Sebastian and I. "Over my dead body, Sallow." he hissed.
"For fucks sake, Ominis!" Sebastian raised his voice, throwing his arms out to his sides. "It will be over all our dead bodies if we don't act now. One of us has to--"
"It won't work, Sebastian." Ominis cut him off. "In order for the Cruciatus Curse to work, you have to mean it...you have to really want to cause someone harm. None of us want to see anyone hurt, so it won't--"
"I can manage." Sebastian stated firmly. "I'll make sure it works."
"Merlin's Beard, what the fuck has happened to you?" Ominis demanded, his pale, slender hands balling into fists at his sides. "Are you that obsessed with finding a cure for Anne? There's no telling what we may find if we do somehow manage to pry that door open...there may not even be anything in there of value...but you're truly willing to risk it all for the slight chance? Are you truly willing to see one of us writhing in pain over this? We're your best friends, god damn it!"
"If you are both truly my best friends, then you will understand why I will stop at absolutely nothing. I will leave no stone, no matter how big or small, unturned. You are so frightened of one of us feeling pain for a few fleeting seconds, while my sister has to sit there and writhe in pain every second of every day." Sebastian argued, his wild, unkempt brown curls swaying with all his movements.
"Enough!" I raised my voice, emerging from behind Ominis. "Arguing isn't going to get us out of here any faster. So just....just do it, Sebastian. Cast it on me."
